I've installed the 196?,1987,1989,1990 season carsets for gp3 v1:13 and when i install the carshapes they crash when a car hits the barrier at a certain speed so i used gpxpatch and used the carshape section to get it in the game but every time the cars get a certain distance away they change back to the oringinal 1999carshapes also when i quit the game i get a error about bump mapping.

It sounds like you need to make RCR Distances higher in GPxPatch (GPxLap Tab). This will slightly increase you processor occupancy. And the error about the bump mapping I think is to do with the circuit your using.

You are right, Ian.

The default RCR distances are:

Cockpit/onboard: 3840
Chase/Track:7680

Try to use 7680 in cockpit/onboard.
Or even use a higher number.
I think it's better always use multiples (7680 is 2 x 3840...)
I use 7680 in cockpit and it looks very very nice, even when using a contemporaryl shape.

The maximum number for RCR distances (the distance where GP3 changes from 3D shapes - the ones you edited - to 2D shapes - which cannot be changed) is 2147483648.

Gp3 changes from 3D to 2D to save system resources. On a modern PC the max number should present no problem.

Why 2147483648? Well, Larry (I think it was Larry O'Meara, but I could be wrong and it was the other Larry. In this case: sorry dude) posted the reason for this long ago:

2147483648 is 2 to the power of 31 or 2 Gig.

Btw, you can also change the RCR values with some editors. Still I would advice you to change it in GpxPatch, since these values overwrite all others.

thanx!!! it's worked. Plus i think its one of the fictional tracks im using that is giving me the problems but it not annoying at the moment. I thought It would be intressting to try a season with 16 new unknown tracks to me.
its fun but at the moment i only have 1 point in the championship coming 6th at coppermine park 2001 its my fav track at the moment when you get the first four corners hocked up it fills great.whoever made the canadian track did a superb job (!!great track!!). Im using the 1997 season cars aswell and they also look top quality.
