2003 Indy 500 carset

Hi all!

I'm trying to make a carset based on this year's Indy 500 for GP3-2000, complete with carshape, Artwork and all.

So far I've got two cars nearly finished, the Kelley racing Toyotas of Al Unser jr and Scott Sharp.

(The Helmet of Scott Sharp isn't his real one)
I would really like to have some people test all the cars for accuracy and in-race realism.
Also I need someone to help me with the carshape - I have real trouble with that.

So, if anyone is interested, tell me and I'll send you what I have as soon as I get it done.

Hey I can do that for ya. I got an old IRL carshape, and I love IRL Indycar series

@Made in Brazil: As most teams have at least two different liveries, I'm not doing it for original GP3. But you can convert irt of course.

@McPen: That would be cool! Do you want me to send you the carshape that I'm working on? I modelled all the liveries on it, so it has rather few distorions.

I mean, you can take the bmp's and load them into the game with GP3edit or something... they'll work fine but you'll only get one carskin pre team, and that's why I'm making this primarily for GP32k.

Does anybody know a good site for Indy 500 pictures? I have real trouble finding good pictures of some of the smaller teams... on most of the team's web sites the pictures they have are so small you can't even make out the main sponsor!

Try the pictures channel at www.motorsport.com - that's where I source a lot of my reference photos for my CART and IRL carsets.

You can also try the photos site linked to the IRL Indycar website - they have more than motorsport.com, but the pictures are slightly smaller.

Thanks for the link Pen, there's really tons of pictures there!

So... I've pretty much finished my attempt at creating a carshape and made a skin for it.



The shape looks somewhat ok from this view, but rather ridiculous from others. (but then again, so do IRL cars)

I think the Marlboro Team Penske badge on the sidepod needs to be straightened a bit though.

It IS straight actually, I've just got problems with the sidepods of the shape. But I'm working on it.

from that pic above, it looks like it sorta moves back towards the main part of the car? is that right or am I seeing things?

If it is, might I suggest running the sidepod parallel to the chassis for a bit more. only problem is that may make the spot where it eventually comes back a bit square.

any thoughts?

It's just not working.
I've spent the last wekk trying to make this **** carshape look right, but I'm simply stuck.

Is there anybody out there who has experience with carshape editing and would be willing to take a look at mine?
Or maybe the best idea would be to start again from scratch... I dunno.

Hey man, I sent you an e-mail with and I haven't received a reply. I guess it's good but, unfortunately the carshape doesn't work with me. It just reboots when I try to start a race. I tested your carskin with my carshape and it looks wonderful. I haven't seen the Magneti Marelli badge on Gil's Penske so I guess you should erase it. And the car needs thicker red stripes, specially in the front. And The Marlboro Team Penske badge can be improved, because the font doesn't seem to be real. That's my report.
I'll work on my carshape to make it look like a real Indycar, as you say.

The things you said about the skin are right, I've already changed some of the things.
And if you can't load the carshape, that's propably because it's in GP3-2000 format. You should use the "export to ctf" function of GP3edit, import a car from GP3.exe and then use "export from ctf". That should do the trick.
