Can't save text files - how to fix?

Hi all

I have a strange problem that has come from nowhere. After each race I like to save a text file of the result, grid and fastest laps. this is done by going to 'print' the file by clicking the 'print to file' box. I think it then used microsoft XPS document writer. I have been doing this for years. But now when i try I get the warning: 'cannot create file'. So I am stuck and can't save results like I used to. Happens on all installed versions of GP3 and GP3 2000. I am using Windows 7. I suspect it might be something to do with an update or somesuch.
Any ideas?

Elio.

your game-exe-files have administrator permissions?
(rightclick on them and set it)

Thats strange.

I don't believe it is an administrator-skill problem because, if so, you will not be abble to save games, hotlaps and other files.

Do you use the "Amrican English" langiuage?

Is your MS XPS available? Does your user have access to execute MS-XPS? Have you tried with and without GPxPatch?

Hi Elio

I also have Win7 64 bits and I can only save in TXT format.
For that to happen I have to check the option "Print to file"

If I leave this option unchecked and ask to print then open a screen asking for the name of the file to save in XPS format but I can't go back to the game anymore;

It seems to be frozen.

The game seems to go into a loop and I have to end it in the task manager ....

So I only use the TXT format that is saved in the Gpsaves folder.
Everything is done with the GP3 screens without leaving it.
I never did this before with XPS, so I don't know if it worked.
In this test I saved the file in XPS format but lost the game.

Perhaps this is a different problem than yours.
I can't use the ALT TAB on this computer
I don't know why .... so I have to press F1 to get out of this loop ...

I did the test on GP3 1.13 and 2K.

Hi Evandro

Thanks for taking a look. I have had the 'print to file' box checked all along and not done anything new. Its just stopped working in the normal way. I think it might be to do with a microsoft change or update. Not sure what I can do.

Hi Elio

I did a test with your MOD 1984 and here it worked normally. I even saw that in the Gpsaves folder there are several files of yours.

So I can understand that you are not managing to generate the TXT file with any installation you have, GP3 1.13 or GP3 2000, right?

So I believe it is not the game ....

You say you haven't done anything ...

Have you tried a new installation in another folder?

Are your installations always in the same folder?

Do you have GP4? Have you done this same test?

My way of trying to find this problem is to compare situations.

After that .... Has the windows been updated? When did this start .....? Try to find some reference before modifying anything ....

Can you generate txt files with other softwres? Here we are only talking about GP3 ... I suggested GP4 .... but what about others ... for example the simple notepad or other software?

I believe that you have already understood what I am proposing. Now is to try and try. Let me know the result.

I will try to find something respect.

Best regards

Hi Elio

It may sound crazy, but do the following test.

Let's see if your folder is allowing you to save files in txt format

With windows explorer go to the Gpsaves folder, hold down the shift key and click the right mouse button

When the menu appears, click on "open command window here" (I don't know how it is in English) maybe command line or command prompt

This screen will appear

See the complete path. In my case I'm doing the test with MOD F1 1984

I forgot to say .... I chose this Gpsaves folder because it has files

Type the following command: dir /b /o:n > _list.txt and press "Enter"

I put the "_" sign in front of the name for this file to be the first in the list .....

The TXT file "_list.txt" will be generated with the list of all files in this folder

If you want to see if it is there with a command then write dir _list.txt (press enter)

If you want to see its content, then wite type _list.txt (press enter)

To exit this black screen just write exit (press enter)

Now see if the _list.txt file is in that folder. Open it and you will see a list of all files.

It worked for me .... if it works for you then your folder is enabled to record files ....

Now I wonder what is the relationship between GP3 and Windows ???? :-o

just this one ....

When logging into your Win7 with which user are you logged in?

On my machine my user is the Administrator.

You said GP3 worked, do you still have the same user?

Can you save screen prints?

Anyway .... it's a lot to ask ....
