Is it possible to change a csm mod then?
What if I were to use Tom's CSM mods for example, but wanted to change a cars skin. Is this possible? Likewise performance files, can these be edited?

What I am trying to understand here is, if I am correct in my understanding of a csm mod, they load and remove files when it's started and ended, how do you access the files that are loaded and removed to make any changes?

Oh yes in fact it in my opinion is way easier
Your kind of correct in the CSM WAD's it up at the start & if you do not have wad cache checked un-wads it after but
anyway............

All your CSM Mods live in your main GP4 directory in GPSaves/Carsets
like here is mine
C:\Program Files (x86)\Grand Prix 4\GPSAVES\Carsets

In that Carsets folder you will see each mod. In each mod you will see a Data folder & cars in that etc
So all the files that would be in the cars wad is there for you to easily exchange for new textures etc

So for instance in Toms 2014 CSM mod if I wanted to change the lotus I would go here
C:\Program Files (x86)\Grand Prix 4\GPSAVES\Carsets\2014 Mod v2.0 by GP4 Central\Data\Cars\lotus

and switch what I want to switch..textures or lods etc

Same for Helmets or what ever in their folders
Sorry I know this is not a great description but I think if you look you will
see what I mean

Also in CSM options I do not check wad cache so each time I run CSM it looks at any changes I made between runs

Thanks for the answer flying, it's a big help.

What about performance files, are they located in the same place - can they be edited also.

Absolutely, that's the great thing about CSM mods, they're totally customizable. Double-click on a mod in the CSM main menu and you will be taken to that mod's files, which you can change as much as you want.

Yep. Performance files can live in one of several locations. In the GP4 Central mods, I put them in the Data\GPxPatch folder. Other mod authors might put them in a folder called Data\Patch or Data\Performance instead.

How about 2010 first to fill the gap, we already have a nice 2011 mod ;-)

Though I agree that it could use an update for the new tyre options that came with the latest gpxpatch version ;)

Some mods
F1 1996 | F1 2002 | F1 2007 | F1 2011 | F1 2013 | F1 2015 | F1 2018

Tyres - What version of GPxPatch are you running?

High PO - it sounds like you need a clean install
of GP4.

GpxPatcx 4.3.0.3
For clean install,hmm.. don't know, every other mod runs perfect, beside earlier version of 2014 mod run perfect also.

If I was to change a car skin in a csm mod, but the skin requires a new 'model' or lod files loading, will I need to change the tyre, wheel and helmet positions?

If so, how do you go about finding the correct x,y and z values for these and how do you make the changes in a csm mod?

Also, I see only one performance file in the 2014 CSM mod by Tom. Is performance different race by race and if so, where are the other files?

I also notice that the performance file is laid out differently when it comes to the 2014 tyres by Excalibur. Are tyres race specific and different by driver? Again how do I locate the performance file to change this if not.

Thanks for any help.

I post the tweaker positions for most cars on GP4 Central. If the car you're trying to edit not there just ask.

I see only one performance file in the 2014 CSM mod

There are 2, one generic and one specific for Spa (with Lotterer in the Caterham). They both live in the Data\GPxPatch folder.

I like the new longer cockpit sides in the V2 2014 mod

I was curious what affected that & was surprised when I finally found it was
basically just the camera view angles

I thought for sure it would be a file in Data/Cockpits ;-)

Thanks

If you have updated your GPxPatch to v4.30 then you should not have problems with the tyres.

I recommend downloading GPxPatch again, there were some tyre bugs in the first v4.30 and Rene made a couple of quick updates with the same version number.

I'll check the empty mod links.
