Anyone got any experience of playing GP4 on a widescreen TFT? I have the opportunity to to get a 22inch TFT widescreen and someone told me that some games play awful on a widescreen due to lower resolution etc.

What would GP4 be like?

I'm playing GP4 on widescreen and its awesome! PO remains the same (though theoretically it should be higher since your rendering more of the screen). All you have to do is manually edit the F1graphics.cfg to whatever your resolution is. In my case I'm playing @ 1680x1050. Don't forget to change your T-cam settings, it'll be slightly different.

with some widescreen monitors, the picture is stretched... does manually editing the cfg file solve this?

Yeah it does. Initially I had it at what my normal resolution would be (1280x1024) and my WS monitor would stretch this so it fills the whole screen. That made things ugly and stretched, but when I manually edited it then it wasn't distorted anymore. You'll play GP4 how its suppose to without the distortion.

I've just got s 26inch widescreen LCD, and i've connected my pc to it, the resolution of it is 1366X768, i have edited the CFG to this resolution, but i cannot pick it in the GP4 graphics options, its just the 1024x768 etc, what should i pick so it doesn't look stretched?

1366x768 on a 26" monitor ? sounds like a waste of quality.
Anyway, once you set the right resolution in the graphics.cfg file, it will be applied in game automaticaly, no need to select it in the game options (and anyway, games options will always show you only pre-definite resolutions).

I bought a 22" lately and GP4 works perfectly in 1680*1050, just changing the graphics.cfg width and height setting (you're not even forced to force use of graphics.cfg, setting first line to 1).
The only drawback is that GPxpatch panels have been designed for 4/3 ratios and will be stretched, but it's not that obvious appart with extreme resolutions.

yes I have used 22" monitor since last december and I'm very happy with it,runs perfectly in 1680x1050,like Laurent said :) ...I think it's a lot better than 19" or 17 " monitors ;-)

Just incase anyone is having probs with a 22" Widescreen and GP, here is what the top of your .cfg should look like:

1 ; f1graphics.cfg controls all settings (default 0)
1680 ; [RELEASE] Game 3D Horizontal Resolution
1050 ; [RELEASE] Game 3D Vertical Resolution
1 ; [RELEASE] Enable 32bit mode if available NB. If Windowed then is forced to desktop format
1 ; [RELEASE] Enable hardware T&L if available
0 ; [RELEASE] Run in a window
0 ; [RELEASE] Number of multisamples if available (0-16 :: 0 => off, 1 unused)
0 ; [RELEASE] Force use of reference rasterizer
0 ; [RELEASE] Vsync (0=>off, or every nth frame) v2
1542 ; [RELEASE] AutoPerformance (Automatic Performance Setting)
0 ; [RELEASE] TestedPerformanceLow (Tested Performance Setting)
0 ; [RELEASE] TestedPerformanceHigh (Tested Performance Setting)

Thanks,
Iain

I haven't checked but I also heard that using DVI input instead of VGA could be better to get unusual resolutions perfectly displayed on wide screens...

Solution is simple : set resolution in lines 2 and 3 of f1graphics.cfg and do not open the graphics option menu in game.

As shown here, you can play in many resolutions but gpxpatch display will not follow.

what you said is done but it doesnt work..i thought i might be wrong and the resolution can really be 1680*1050,i might not understand it as i am quite rookie with 22" lcd, but the gpxpatch panel is not like in that photo...game graphic option keeps showing 640*480 but i am sure that it is not that in the game.

2 propositions :
- try to set ingame graphics option to 'manual' instead of automatic, then leave the game, change the 2 and 3 lines from .cfg file and check if it's ok.
- if first idea do not work, set first line of the .cfg file to 1. It must apply the resolution then.

PS: And yes, game options will still display 640*480 (or any other resolution) but this is not the values you should trust. Forgot the graphics game options (else such low resolutions will be applied over your own settings when you will leave that menu) and directly launch game. A simple way to know if you use the right resolution is to take a screenshot (F11 with Gpxpatch) and to check screenshot size once you're back to windows.
Of course, size should be 1680*1050.
