Hockenheim 2004 hi-res update [released]

Cheers,
I have made an update for Hockenheim (OLD layout!!!) which replaces the most important (grass, tarmac, rails, fences, gravel, green surface, signs, adverts) low-res textures by hi-res textures. Don't expect it to be as good as Caelen's or Mini Maestro's hi-res tracks but it definitively looks better than low-res.
The textures and original track are NOT my work - I just did the modifications.

Because of this I want to thank following authors for their permission to use their work:
Ricardo Lampert: Hockenheim 2004 v0.99
Caelen: many textures which I have extracted from his hi-res tracks
Mini Maestro: textures which I have also used from his hi-res tracks
and of course Lo2k for his great tools 3DEditor, WadUpdater and TexResizer.
Thank you guys!:)

Here some of the modifications I made except updating textures:
- .col file: tarmac behaviour (instead of gravel or grass) on runoff areas with tarmac textures (except chiacanes)
- .gp4 file: six new small signs at the runoff areas in first and third chicane (and others)
- .dat-file: missing kerb at exit of first chicane added

I have also updated the tree textures, but there are some bugs so that I haven't included them in the update. If somebody who is experienced with this could help me, I could do an update for this later. Help appreciated:)

Download:
from Dragon Racing forums:

from RapidShare:
[rapidshare.de] [12,4 MB]

(the gp4form.txt explains everything)

Here some screenshots:

If feedback is positive, it would be nice if there was a host because RapidShare is not really reliable.

My next projects will be:
Interlagos hi-res update: based on Interlagos 2004 v0.99 (if I get permission by Ricardo Lampert and Caelen for hi-res textures)
Shanghai update: based on Shanghai 1.0 from shutt1e (if I get permission by Caelen to use hi hi-res textures)
Hockenheim (new layout) update: based on Hockenheim 2005 from shutt1e (if I get permission by Caelen to use hi hi-res textures)

Have fun. Feedback appreciated:)

Cheers,
Ruboy

Nice work. Downloading now. Why not upload it to GPG and GP4Italia? They may take a while to upload it or have download caps, but they are more reliable than Rapidshare.

I'm sure Leslie from Motorsportfotos.co.uk would love to host them too.

yeah please upload it over at www.motorsportfotos.co.uk
its by far one of the fastest and most reliable servers around. rapidshare doesnt work for me due to my router anyway.

Anyway good job on the track. its pretty decent except for the tree shadows in some places.

Yeah great track. Very nice :)

Can you make a High-res Nürburging 2004 Track?

@Karan:
Wow:) Do you have edited these screenshots? Compare them with mine and you'll now what I mean:)
I wrote that I had also updated the trees but there were some bugs. I'll try to solve them and release a 'Tree update' . But this may take a while.

@darkmasta:
Be patient mate:) You can find a short list of my next projects in the first post.

Anyway, I have already started with the Interlagos hi-res update one hour ago:) Well, now I have to get permission and then we'll see. I'm optmistic that it will be finished for next week's Brazilian GP.

Concerning the hosting of the update I'll try to upload it somewhere else - but tomorrow because I'm leaving in a few minutes. Just tell me which possibilities I have (f.e. dragonracing?).

Cheers,
Ruboy

Sorry for double posting, but Karan could you post a screenshot of the problem with the tree shadows?

its not really a problem. but are you using high-res textures for the shadows? its just when driving in the forest area, under the tree shadows they just appear very flickery and not smooth

No, shadow textures has remained the same.
Hm, I'll take a look at it, but I haven't noticed anything yet.
Maybe it's aspecific problem.

Xero's got a job in the gaming industry last i heard so I don't think he's had much time to do anything with nurburgring, however, there may be other people working on it, so perhaps ask around? Otherwise, I may be able to help with a new layout a little if I've not got too much else on :)

:) Good stuff. Would it be possible to import the new track/physics over the old layout and still keep the old graphics/objects? If so, can I have a copy of your dat b-tone :)?
