Cannot complete session without the game crashing [crash log post]

So I'm trying to get my Legend's Trophy off the ground, and after six failed attempts to run the quali session at Spa, I'm tearing my hair out. Every time the game just crashes randomly at some point during the session, and I'm not knowledgeable enough to decipher the Gpxpatch log.

I've heard that my Realtek sound card can cause problems so I disabled it, but that's not helping.

I'm using Windows 10, the 9.6 patch, and Gpxpatch v4.43

Have you set compatibility of gp4.exe to winxp sp1 and cpu to 0 in gpxpatch?

Yes, setting CPU to 0 should be the first thing to try.

Completely forgot about changing the CPU to 0, after looking at all the other, much less obvious possibilities. D'oh!

Just ran the qualifying session again with the new setting and it didn't crash, fingers crossed that's the problem now solved.
@René - can I suggest making the CPU core selection a "text file only" item, and by default making it CPU=0? I think it would help a lot.

I could do that, but I don't know if that would slow down the game for people who don't have any problems running it on all cores. Unless you are sure that everyone has it set to CPU 0 already?
I can just change the default to CPU 0 though. This won't affect existing installations of GPxPatch, only new ones.

Does some people can run the game on all cores? I was sure it is not possible....

In my own experience I have never run the game stably using CPU=All, I always have to use CPU=X. And we always see people here state that was the cause of a problem.

I think one could safely set a single core as default value as I have yet to see a single core breaking sweat when running GP4. The gain/loss in performance is probably minimal.

I used to play with all CPU cores a long time ago but it was with a dual core processor. The game ran fine. But after, I had to change to 0, to avoid freezes and game crashes with more powerfull processor and multi cores.

BTW, René, I agree with your first idea to change the default to CPU 0 (but to keep the others options for specific or lower pc spec.)

Another thing. As you fixed freezes due to tyre marks buffer by selecting the max track lenght to 10 kms, will you integrate a new tyre mark buffer patch in a next version , whatever the max track lenght chosen? I remember that you were working on it :)

I'm quite sure I already apply this fix since 4.40, even without setting it to 10km. Do you get the freeze with 8km too?
