"just 2004 season updates " Meaning new paint schemes and drivers ? Dang. I was hoping for something deeper. What about new patches to fix bugs or stuff like that ? Updated tracks ?by JohnW - Grand Prix 4
Sorry for a topic that I should have been able to find with the search button, but I did give it a go, and I didn't find what I was looking for.. I've been away from GP4 for aobut a year. ( Online F1C league ) I just saw a post in the SPEEDTV forums about " Best F1 Sim ? " and all the usual replies came. One guy mentioned GP4 with all the 2004 updates as being great. So, whby JohnW - Grand Prix 4
Well, I guess I will consider this idea dead... The worst part is NOW I have to learn how to drive F1 Challenge. Have fun with your HL events ! ( By the way, as long as our rules are the same, you could post your lap at our site, for further fame a fortune. You've already done the work. ) Thanks for your attention... Forgive me if I have assumed something incorrectly.... If everyone just submitted their best lap, at the end of the qualifying time, there would be a lot less work. Sure, you wouldn't know where you stood until the results got posted, but it would be a lot simpler to do and a LOT less work to verify the laps. As you currently do it, every time you improve by even a thousandth of a second,by JohnW - Grand Prix 4
We were much more relaxed about things. We allowed the entire 2 weeks between actual F1 races for getting your best HD time. Run as many times as you can fit in. Our only check and balance was to see if your average lap time was faster than your HL time that we used as a qualifying time. F1C, on the other hand has a telemetry program that can save for the whole race. That can then be checked forby JohnW - Grand Prix 4
I've already posted a bit with Korn_Freak. I know HLs are easier to do and can be verified by watching the replay and running it through the utility. Races, for GP4 are more of an honesty thing. The only thing you can do is check average times vs. HL times. It seems there are much less people with the time to do races. I'll keep checking back. Would you like to actually RACE ? I'm in a sim league that , up until this up coming season, has been multiplatform. By that, I mean we allowed most modern sims to compete in a unified competition. The math to fairly equate times on given tracks became too time consuming AND led to some arguments about how the formulas were used. So...that idea has been tossed out. Fongu, All last season, we had 1/2 distance races, and you're correct. It IS a bit time consuming. Each race was about 45-50 minutes long. Add to that, aborted attempts and attempts to do better. To make it more convienient to race, we have been talking about 1/3 race lengths. The idea is to make it long enough for tire wear and fuel to come into play. I'll go ahead and post a moby JohnW - Grand Prix 4
Korn_Freak, I didn't know you guys were expanding into half distance ( are any partial distance ) races. Hopefully, I'm not stepping on your toes. Please let me know if I am. To be honest, I believe the rules here are very similar to the rules we used. People could probably post race times in both places. If no one is adverse to the idea, I would like to post this same request, wby JohnW - Grand Prix 4

Not that it changes much, but I did e-mail a better lap in, while the forum was down. 1:35.861 MS FF Wheel No Aides JohnWby JohnW - Grand Prix 4

JohnW 1:37.954 Microsoft FF Wheel Aides: None. ( I'll send it a lap file tonight, when I get home ) Can someone remind me whether to have the checkmark on "2001 levels" or "all the same" for performance ? Given the answer for the first question, does it really matter what car you hot lap in ? How much time does TC gain for you ? JohnWby JohnW - Grand Prix 4

ThunderGod, "...now the challenge is to get the wheel not to "shake" as violently down a long straight using a lower value of "reduce with speed" setting. dolinseks, As I'm trying to keep my excisting RAM, which is just PC-133, the board I'm looking at, MSI K7T Turbo 2 ( $35-$45 (us) ) , only supports up to a 266fsb. While I know that faster ram and bus speeds would be helpfull, I'm trying to keep the costs down. I would get the hot laps from the keyboard players rather than the wheel players. Once you have a baseline, you can tweek them to your liking. Where do you get most of your oversteering problems ? Braking ? Corner exit ? Acceleration ? Corner entry ? The fix may differ for all of these. JohnWby JohnW - Grand Prix 4
I guess I'm thinking that AMD has been making quite reliable chips for at least 12 years and they generally get nice reviews in trade magazines and independent web sites. Considering I can get a mother board and 2.0ghz CPU for about $119 ( US ) and save LOTS of money over a P4,which would run me about $200 plus new RAM at about $100 for DDR stuff, I guess I'm thinking about saving monby JohnW - Grand Prix 4
In a related topic, I've been considering upgrading my cpu to a 2.0ghz Athlon but on a low cost board that is still just 266Mhz FSB. That way I can still use my PC-133 ram ( 512Mb ) . Since the CPU will be twice as fast, but the FSB and RAM will be the same, what could I expect in improved performance ? I know of another league that has HLs and 50% length races. The trend is to go all F1-2002 or F1C next year, due to I and one other being the only GP4 guys. The F1C guys will also have scheduled Online races too. ( That's the plan anyway. ) Maybe if we had some more DRIVERS that used GP4, we could keep the cross platform thing going. Maybe keep a GP4 section at worst. Go To: www.fihs.neby JohnW - Grand Prix 4
Personally, I think allowing non original tracks is a bit iffy. Unless someone wants to go through the data and make absolutly sure that grip levels, curbing, and what ever else can be changed, hasn't been changed. It also gives room to the, " how come all the guys running updated track X are faster than they were on stock track Y ? " sort of questions. JohnWby JohnW - Grand Prix 4
Personally, I don't use any driving aides, but that is just a stuborn streak I have. I think most of the drivers, in the other league I work with, DO use TC in their EA sims. The, " If they use it in the REAL world, we should be able to do so as well " argument is the norm. But.... If a league wants to try to differenciate between drivers even more, adding some sort of time toby JohnW - Grand Prix 4
I've got a question or two. 1) Since each person submits their lap file, the "jury" or designated verifier can view each lap and look for any aides that are turned on as well as watch for any infractions during the lap, why is there any talk of cheating ? 2) If there is concern over what aides are given what penalty, why not just state which ones are allowed, period ?
