They are so incompetent that only the link that pops up when the site opens works. The actual patch link within the support section of the website hasn't been updated. What disturbs me is the fact that there is no documentation within the patch package which confirms what has actually been patched. The only difference its made on my machine is make the selection buttons flicker when the moby StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
OMG Stunt Car Racer!!!! How good was that game!!! Maybe Geoff could find the time to update that.by StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
Well, after much gnashing of teeth and banging of head I have finall got GP4 working pretty well without any graphical glitches. Along the way I've learnt a few things and spent a lot of money. The lessons I've learned:- a) If you've got a problem look on the net for the solution - this forum and the forum's on your graphic card manufacturer's website are a good start.by StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
I don't think no-one is really saying that GP4 is graphically poor. The general view is that the graphic engine is neither ground breaking or state of the art. The main gripe is the frame rate which is the single most important thing in a GP game. The graphic engine is flawed and poorly implemented, but if they can improve the frame rates and the glitches in the current engine then I am surby StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
Its pretty easy. if you've changed a hard drive or installed a new card its easy. All you've got to do is disconnect the power cables to the motherboard and peripherals then unscrew the PSU from its mounting and lift it out. Simply do that in reverse for your new PSU. Stuart Ferrisby StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
I have just found out that my motherboard requires a 250W power supply minimum and prefers 300W. The big problem was that my existing PSU was 200W. I have now upgraded and fitted a 300W PSU. Funny thing is since installing the new PSU GP4 has suddenly become more stable. I can now run the game in 1024x768 with 3D accelerated sound switched on and still obtain frame rates around 30 FPS. Before iby StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
Finally, found the solution to my GP4 problems through the forum. I've had to dump 3D Accelerated Sound and am only running at 16bit 800x600 with only default graphic features running, but at least I can get out of the pits and round the track without being dumped to the desktop. I can now find all those other lovely bugs that Morbid is cataloging. Stuart Ferrisby StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
Nice one Stez, I have been having the same problems over the weekend and tried your tip. What do you know it worked. Kinda sucks that something that is supposed to help the speed of the game actually causes more problems than it solves. Stuart Ferrisby StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
Yeah, i've noticed that too, but it is down to the use of traction control. Just switch it off and everything should be ok. Stuart Ferrisby StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
I am not nit picking. I can't actually play the game. It crashes back to the desktop every time it runs the game engine. This is the only game I have a problem with, everything else runs perfectly. As a result I can only come to the conclusion that it is the fault of GP4. I did not start out with the intention of dissing GP4. When I bought it I truly hoped that they had learnt their lessonsby StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
This happens to me too. Thats one of the reasons I'm so frustrated. Stuart Ferrisby StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
The whole point of this exercise is to be subjective. Yes, there are a lot of people on this list, me included, who are extremely angry with the state this product has been released in. We also have a right to express our anger to Infogrames, but in order to express this anger cohesively and constructively it is best down using the resources of this group. Infogrames are more likely to sit up andby StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
Trevor, Thanks for joining in, and we do realise the position you are in. However, although I do not wish to question your ethics, I do think it would satisfy a lot of people on the list if you could clarify how you as a reviewer approach a review of a product? In particular I would like to know the following:- 1) Is the game tested on a number of differing systems? 2) How long do you have toby StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
I agree that a collective effort is required, however, we have to make it clear to Infogrames that we are unhappy with the situation. I applaud the fact that you have taken on the task Morbid, but this constant bickering between Cmspodwy and yourself will only undermine the effort. Everyone on the list should pull together to act as one as we all have the same common goal. Now the problem with tby StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
No other manufacturing industry could get away with the practice of releasing a faulty or incomplete product, but it seems to be the norm in the software industry. I think the phrase 'non-merchantable quality' would be the word to use in this instance. Infogrames is probably not the people to complain to, but perhaps Trading Standards would be. Well, I've managed to sort out the graphic problems on my machine. I've had to limit the colour palette and textures to 16bit which means I can only play the game at 800x600 resolution. This resolves all the glitches and the grphic engine now works okay. I find this incredible I have a 2.0gHz P4 with 1/2Gb of memoryand GeForce4 MX420 card with 64Mb of memory. Anyone else having problems with graphical glitches on some of the tracks. Textures sometimes goes funny and the geometry can sometimes be a bit off. I'm using a 3D Blaster MX420 graphic card with all up-to-date drivers installed. I really hope these problems are down to my system. If not, instead of employing a 60 strong programming team Geoff Crammond really needs to employ a 60 strong quby StuartFerris - Grand Prix 4
