This wasn't a "XP2200+" but a XP at 2200 real MHZ, there's a big difference. The test was done at 800x600x16 and low quality settings in sound (control panel).by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
Not exactly my conclusion! It looks like video card makes zero difference. It'd be nice if someone could do a careful test with say a Radeon 9200(not SE) and then a 9800, on exactly the same system, with the same drivers. Any takers?by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
So I bought a new faster cpu, with more cache. I did a little testing with the "TEST" button in the graphics menu (a crude benchmark). In all tests I ran it 4 times, throwing the first one away (due to buffering) and using an average of the next 3. The CPU is AthlonXP, on a system with PC133 RAM. 1650Mhz, 256kb Cache : 38 fps 1650Mhz, 512kb Cache : 43 fps 2200Mhz, 512kb Cache :by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
Buying a new PC to run GP4 faster? Well here's some new benchmarks I found on the web: Unfortunately, even an AMD64 still struggles with this beast of a game!by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
Try turning down the sound quality in Control Panel sound settings. This got me an extra 10fps ! Shutdown your virus checker before running GP4. Also, turn OFF dynamic lighting in the advanced graphics menu.by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
What's this about AMD64 with 60fps and 20% po??? *cough* bullshit *cough* Check the bottom of this page: The 3200-64 is no better than XP-3200+ in GP4. -- Pete.by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
What card did you have before and how much better is the 4800SE in gp4? We want numbers!by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
Haljazz, I get the same problem with the greying out of the menu. It seems to be random! Probably another GP4 bug.by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
Well I swapped the card for a cheap Audigy OEM. Now it recommends 36 fps. Time to play some races in the wet without 140% PO on the starting grid Funny how "2D/3D Hardware Accel." setting in GP4 only makes things worse. -Pete.by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
mckey415, please tell me your results. I have 7 days to take it back to the shop for a tradeupby pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
Hi All, I have a C-Media CM8738 PCI sound card. With the card disabled and running the TEST mode in the graphics menu, I get suggested rate of 44fps. With the card enabled I get only 23fps! Almost half. Can someone offer some advice on improving this? It's a terrible lost just for sound! I've already tried turning off/on "2D Hardware Accel", but it only affects it by 2-3 fpsby pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
If you go into Control Panel, system->device manager, you can disable your current sound hardware. Then run GP4 and see the difference. On my peice of crap ISA SB16, it incures about 12fps (when running the TEST in the graphics settings). I suppose all you need is a card that can mix many sound channels in hardware. Which can do that fast? SB live 5.1? -Pete.by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
I couldn't disagree more! Graphics card does NOT help alot. The facts prove it: Even a ATI 9700 (which is a very fast card) doesn't improve on a MX440 in GP4. It's all about CPU power and memory bandwidth. P.S. to jacksenna: Get the 2500+ instead, it's got more cache and costs about the same. -Pete.by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
No, I don't have one myself (I wish), but here are some benchmarks: (see bottom of page). Only 1fps more on a 64-3200+ than a normal XP3200+ :/ -Pete.by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
Yep, the Matrox is AGP and the slot does 4X.by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
Maybe I wasn't so clear. I have a G400 now (same performance as 450/550). I want to buy a newer card, but want to know what it'll do in GP4, from other people's experience (not just guesses). - Pete.by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
Hi All, Has anyone out there upgraded from a Matrox g400/450/550 video card? I'm wondering what difference it'll make in Gp4, without changing other components. These cards are known to be slow in 3d, but then again, gp4 likes mainly CPU power. I'm looking at getting something like a R9600Pro or Ti4800SE, but it would be nice to hear from someone who used to have one of these maby pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
Here are some actual GP4 benchmarks with different video cards! GP4 has an unusual 3d engine, it seems as though a MX440 is just as good as a Ti4600. Don't forget to edit F1graphics.cfg, you can really improve your performance there. Also, in Window's control panel, turn down sound quality a bit, I found this gave me about 8fps extra, with no noticable difference to the actual soundby pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
Lo2k, how about making all the information you've learned about gp4 track files available somewhere? I.e. offsets, values, meanings etc... Don't be like microprose and keep it all a big secret P.S What language are you writing the editor in?by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
Please don't include the shark gills, they increase my PO by ~20% (tested with F2003GA). Great work Viper, all your cars look superb.by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
> On the other hand, he doesn't actually play GP4: I'm sure he has enough of REAL F1 with testing and a grandprix every 2 weeks! Good to see he called it realistic though. I wonder what the arrows drivers thought of it (apparently arrows helped with the development?). -- Peter.by pzed22 - Grand Prix 4
