When put like that it's eye opening. I've always been ready to defend the regulations after F1 has always changed and developed. But when you notice a significance visible difference between the performance of an 06 car and a 16 car in the favour of the 06 car then even I begin to question the current technical regulations. And it's true... the cars of V10/V8 era are far moreby J i m - F1
Being a Rosberg supporter I would have liked to be able to write that off as a racing incident. But I can't. It was desperate defending and yet again he's let Hamilton get inside his head. Such a shame, it had been a pretty fine drive up to then to bring himself back into contention. But it was a pretty terrif race and that was without the rain. I still don't think these new regs will nessacarily improve the racing but what I will say is this. I randomly happened across the recording of the 2006 British Grand Prix (can't believe it's ten years old! ) but the cars were noticeably faster in the corners and although that race was nothing to write home about there is an element of thrill watching faster cars being driven tby J i m - F1
Gav has a point, the cars are so well balanced today that Monza no longer looks like the challenge it is. The end of the V10 era has gradually made the cars look like they're on rails. If you've seen the onboard footage of Montoya setting the fastest ever lap there in the BMW Williams you know that the circuit layout is not the problem. I didn't get to follow this very well from Le Mans, I'd used up data by Friday evening. So I watched the C4 highlights on Monday. The highlights nearly always lose something.. and I'm convinced again that I lost some significant part of the race that shows you how the leading players got to where they did. Ahh man... I couldn't believe it, I don't think anyone could. This rivals Hildebrand crashing out of the Indy 500 on the last turn gifting victory to Wheldon. To lose a 24 hour race with mere minutes to go having lead it for hours... devastating. A definite disappointment that Vettle and the Ferrari challenge melted away, strategy blunder or not he just fizzled out. Epic turn one, Austin all over again. It was probably all legal and marginal and all that fluff but it's a shame Hamilton too often effectively drives Rosberg off the track. Well that was amazing.. I think it will be a very long time (if ever) until anyone threatens Max's new record as the youngest ever Grand Prix winner not least because the super licence rules now prevent that. But what a marvellously mature performance just nothing at all rattled him. As Gav said the circumstances came together for it too happen but he still had to get the job done and he wasby J i m - F1
Mercedes seem to simply go from strength to strength. The whole setup of the organisation just clicks. I sense a Hamilton victory tomorrow as he is basically that but quicker than Rosberg but lap one will be vital. He's been a bit shoddy on the starts so far and Rosberg needs little invitation to take advantage at the moment. The Red Bull is a super chassis and they've definitely regby J i m - F1

Red Bull ran a installation lap with their canopy on Friday and aesthetically it's definitely less offensive than the halo. Personally although I love the old look of open cockpit single seaters I think the arguments for havinby J i m - F1
Bottas had the new front wing at China. What interests me is that at Bahrain where Massa had it, Bottas was quicker but at China it was a role reversal. So has it been a benefit to the performance? Maybe they haven't quite got it calibrated to the car yet but it's hardly the significant gain it promised to be. The pit crew have definitely raised their game which is pleasing since theby J i m - F1
Aye Max's race craft is pretty much exceptional.. It's the maturity which is lacking but he's young so that will come. Red Bull almost have a glut of quality drivers at the moment. It's very easy to envisage a Ricciardo - Verstappen lineup at Red Bull which would be pretty potent which has the potential to leave both Kyvat and Sainz out in the cold. I support the idea of customer teams. I loved the fact that Toro Rosso won a race in what was essentially a Ferrari powerd red bull. What Super Aguri managed with an old cobbled together arrows was amazing and it was also fun to seem them beat Honda with their own old car. I appreciate that Williams are proud of being a constructor but they shouldn't forget that they too ran customeby J i m - F1
Decent race with some variety in strategy. Turn one melee was definitely Bottas mistake he just went in far too deep. P5 for Grosjean... and we can't even put this down to a fortuate red flag or safetycar. This was pure pace and strategy. Two races two top sixes. Points even in the old style scoring system. I think in the short term reverting back to the 2015 spec qualifying is the most sensible solution. It was working fine for current set of technical regulations. If F1 absolutely insists upon changing qualifying substantially in the future then it should be designed around and in conjunction with the technical regulations. As I said previously this musical chair elimination style qualify couldby J i m - F1
I think the reliability is down to a combination of things. Firstly the advance of technology in that the manufacturing of the components will have developed considerbly over time with newer and stronger materials being found. Plus in recent years the regulations stipulating that engines and gearboxes etc last longer and tha the competive environment has pushed along the engineering and preparatiby J i m - F1
Well.. it wasn't quite as drastically as bad as Melbourne but it's clear that this format simply doesn't work. Perhaps it could work if they had a tyre which lasted long enough without performance dedge to allow the cars to run throughout each session. But that just goes to prove that this simply wasn't thought through. Some parts of qualifying today were ok. But it sucks tby J i m - F1

Goes to show that risk management is so much stricter today, gone are the days that a Mansell would be allowed to race despite a broken back, foot or concussion of some sort. Last driver I can recall racing with injuries is Coulthard who had broken ribs following his plane crash.by J i m - F1
It was still a scary moment. It took me a little while to twig that Gutierez had been in a collision when the feed first cut to him and then the wreckage caught my eye and I just thought 'ahhhhh @#$%&, who ever is in there ain't getting out alive'. The fact that Alonso crawled out unaided with just a few bruises is simply amazing and shows just how strong these cars are not to mby J i m - F1

For the most part, as long as he's not hurting anyone or breaking laws then I'm uninterested as it's his life and non of my business.
