I agree with b-tone about using the extra track. Using the line of least resistance is always the fastest way, and using the run off at the exit of Ascari at Monza or Turn 7 at Indy, you are always going to be much faster than if you stay tight. And that advantage will keep building up over the following straight, so it's a win-win situation. As you can tell by my lap, I prefer to stay wby gav - Grand Prix 4
No I'm not a professional hotlapper, but I'll take that as a compliment thanks! I race in the F1WGP4L, which is about to get under way again soon. I did half of last season, and my only other hotlapping experience is 1 season in the F1WGP3L, where I wasn't too fast. I don't think I'm a particularly good hotlapper - I think consistancy is my best skill. I've beenby gav - Grand Prix 4
Just thought I'd mention that I took the challenge, and got a 1:08.889 I've not bothered making it official, but I use default physics and power, with no aids at all (not even steering help), and use a Logitech MOMO Force wheel. Here is the lap for you to see in all it's gloryby gav - Grand Prix 4
Just to add to that, the gp4tweak.bin file is being modified according to the time stamp, it's just that GP4 isn't seeing that portion of the data.by gav - Grand Prix 4
1) I always run GP4 from the GPxPatch, and haven't even tried testing the helmet positions without GPxPatch running (which could have been a mistake I guess) 2) I use WinXP Pro, but I'm not on a network, and don't have any shared folders or files. I log in as the sole user, and have full admin rights.by gav - Grand Prix 4
I get this problem too. I'm using 1.0.4.2. I'd given up trying to solve the problem, but now that I see others are having this problem, I thought I may as well add that they aren't the only ones. Great program btw, thanksby gav - Grand Prix 4
Best corner? Eau Rouge in monsoon conditions... No steering help, no traction control, and if you take it flat out, you're really on the edge. Top stuff. Not realistic, but just pure adreneline.by gav - Grand Prix 4
No way you can put the G400/G450/G550 in even the same thread as a Radeon (any Radeon). The Matrox Gxxx line is a workstation card, it's not even got a fan. I doubt there is much difference between the G400 and the G550 though. I certainly never noticed much difference between the G450 and the G550 at work. They might run GP4, at relatively low resolutions, but I wouldn't hold out foby gav - Grand Prix 4
Hard to find at the moment (as Logitech stopped making them) but a MOMO Force is worth every single penny.by gav - Grand Prix 4
"And i don't see the barge board, but if you have some pics with the barge board" Sorry, haven't bothered looking at this thread for a while.... Anyway, the pic of Alliot in a 94 McLaren:by gav - Grand Prix 4
Actually, I'm struggling to remember Alliot driving for McLaren... Did he substitute for Brundle after he had a his big shunt at Interlagos? (thanks to Irvine).by gav - Grand Prix 4
well it's got Peugeot stickers on it Andy But in all honestly, it doesn't look like the 94 car as I remember it... those barge boards.... hmmmby gav - Grand Prix 4
That last pic looks beyond gorgeous...by gav - Grand Prix 4
Here's a one that I made, has Kiesa in Minardi and Wilson in Jaguar.by gav - Grand Prix 4
I've just ordered a 2500+ a few days ago... waiting for it to arrive before I slot it in next to my new RAID controller... :P With the aid of my watercooling, it should overclock nicely up to those speeds :Dby gav - Grand Prix 4
Bazza, I have to disagree again - my system (2400+) can out perform P4s of the same level. It's 50-50... P4 2.4s have a much better overclocking potential, but if you pair an Athlon 2400+ with a NForce2 motherboard (like my Epox ERGA+) and set it up right, then it will comfortably live with most P4s...by gav - Grand Prix 4
I think the 9200 is the latest graphics card from ATI - it's certainly one of the latest. What it isn't is the fastest, which is the 9800 Pro. As for your motherboard, most KT400 motherboards will accept the 3000+, but it depends on the actual motherboard really. I can see know real reason why it shouldn't though. But to be honest, you really won't notice much difference betby gav - Grand Prix 4
Bazza, I can't add you because you "don't have a passport account" - oh well... can you add me? this_is_gav@msn.com As for Microdirect, that's where I buy most of the stuff for work, and despite the huge delivery costs they have for trade accounts, the service is decent, and I have nby gav - Grand Prix 4
"The Athlon XP3200+ is the closest running at 2.2Ghz When it's written this way you see the difference in price is actually the other way round. Still, I'd buy (and indeed just have bought) an Athlon 2500+ because they have a better core (Barton) than the Thoroughbred core that the 2600+ have. They are also a lot cheaper than the P4 2.4C, about half price or less. (Plus I have myby gav - Grand Prix 4
"Maybe you would be interested in selling some cards you don't use..." I don't have them all now, but they are some cards that I've had or used in the recent past - I've still got the Radeon 8500, TI4600 and obviously the Radoen 9800 Pro, but I couldn't get rid of the MX 420 fast enough....by gav - Grand Prix 4
Jon, can the wad file(s) have any difference, as it's loaded the wad(s) in the first place, so surely reloading them shouldn't be a problem... But you know miles more about the workings of GP4 than I do, so I'll back away now... :Pby gav - Grand Prix 4
"by the way Gav, are any of those Radeon 8000+ compatible with laptops? I'm thinking about saving money for some months (maybe year) in order to buy something like a 9800 and install in my laptop, but I don't know if it is possible. Do you know? Maybe you would be interested in selling some cards you don't use..." I doubt it - they wouldn't fit in most laptops for aby gav - Grand Prix 4
"They are also worlds apart in price range Gavin - as I said up there, for it's price the GF4 mx range are a nice choice." That's true, they are decent(ish) value - and they are certainly a HUGE step up from the Intel onboard controller (which I have experience of at work, and there are no guns big enough...). Call it a short term measure if you want - but it will save you mby gav - Grand Prix 4
"Christ people unless you've had a GF4 MX don't blast it - they're cheap cards and are very good for the price (I have a GF4 mx420)." I've an MX 420, a Radeon 8500, a Geforce 4 Ti4600 and now a Radeon 9800 Pro, and to say that a MX 420 is around 20% of the performance of the 9800 is an understatement. They are worlds apart. Damn you! I will accept that challenge too! I won't get a chance until next weekend though.by gav - Off-Topic
I've only got a PB of 1:27.98 at Monza so far - Monza is my most hated track of the originals - Curve Grande and Lesmo 2 I'm relatively slow in, but challenge accepted - I'll give it a go! And Glyn: what aids? I don't use any aids at all, other than the "steering hack" which I've left enabled in the core.ini I still haven't decided which is better - to haby gav - Off-Topic
I was about to give up, and accept defeat to a faster man, but popped 2 consecutive faster laps in, one a 1:29.32, and then this 1:29.21 It's wonderful what a challenge can do.... and it doesn't do the GPL Rank anyharm too! Post Edited (04-26-03 19:09)by gav - Off-Topic
Just realised I've fallen short of Matt's 1:29.408 at Monza in the Honda... I guess I'll have to find some time to have a go at that challenge then...by gav - Off-Topic
I'm guessing you are a little younger on average than us... on Thursday I believe that there were two 23 yr olds, one 19 yr old and one 16yr old. But I'm sure that anyone from AlphaF1 will tell you that I laugh at most things, and make a hell of a lot of jokes (most of them crap admittably), so there's nothing wrong with my sense of humour... even if it's a little weird (Iby gav - Off-Topic
I don't mean to start it up again, and apologise if that's how it seems. But at no point when I was around did anyone say "lets kill these tossers" - certainly none of us anyway. I'm also totally confused as to what you mean by refering to "if people remember back then and wot was going on before that". You've lost me there mate! I never threatened anyoneby gav - Off-Topic
