I've only glanced through the last few posts, but for those guys (like fcarmoracing) who race without steering help, Imola is really hard to stay up with the ones who race with it, isn't it? For a league race last season, I managed a time that was a full 1 second off the fastest guy (who I'm usually level with) - and that was one of those really ballsy laps that just don't coby gav - Grand Prix 4
In F1C it seems the car rotates around a central point. It doesn't appear to model wheels individually, physics wise. With GP4, you can feel exactly what the rear wheels are going, to the point where, provided the setup allows you to do it, you can use the throttle to control the steering of the car. Nowhere near to the extent of GPL, but it's similar feeling. Tosa being a prime examby gav - Off-Topic
@Gav, Turning off the aids in GP4 does not make it hard. Erm... are you still running on default setups and performace? Have you even approached the limit yet? Steering help actually helps you control the car, not just help you go in the right place. Turn it off, run in a monsoon, without traction control. Even as a seasoned pro at GPx, I found that rather difficult at first. Doing 1:09s atby gav - Off-Topic
F1C too hard? Only if you drive GP4 with steering help. Turn off the aids, and GP4 becomes a challenge. I love it when people come out and say they've just drove a great lap in GP4, then they say that they use 15% steering help. It's hilarious.by gav - Off-Topic
I'll just say this to those that haven't played GPL: If you can, get it, get the addons and patches, and there is no better motor racing simulation out there. I'm impressed with that cockpit, b-toneby gav - Grand Prix 4
Yea, same graphics card, same problem I doubt it's graphics card related, as I'm running an ATI 9800 Pro, and I get that. Ingame resolution of 1280x1024 for anyone that's interested.by gav - Grand Prix 4
I've got SP1a (which doesn't have the MS Java included) and run with Sun's Java 1.4.2, and I get the same problems. Even with the original XP, and with SP1, whether I ran Sun Java or not, I always got the same problem. I just edit the performance in text files anyway now.by gav - Grand Prix 4

It comes with my card... it's from Hercules... I suppose I could upload it for you, but there's not a lot of chance that it will work with anything not made by Hercules... Have a poke around there site, see if it's available for download, if not, I'll email you a link or something...by gav - Grand Prix 4
Don't think I've ever had any problems with my 9800 Pro, and I've been running the 3.8 catalyst drivers for a month now. If it causes overheating with some cards then it definately doesn't affect mine, as I can overclock the graphics card by some 50mhz on the core, and 40mhz on the memory without anything strange happening. I'm still going to get the 3.9 Catalysts thougby gav - Grand Prix 4
OpenGL should always run faster than DirectX if you've got both set up correctly. Also OpenGL generally performs better on Nvidia cards than it does on ATI ones. Nothing that will surprise you so far then... Are you still running AA on the Nvidia card? AA performs much worse on Nvidia cards than it does on their ATI equivilants... I've had both Nvidia and ATI recently, but I went tby gav - Grand Prix 4

if i can repeat my result in Spa i'll be a very happy man seeing as Gav has now joined us!!!! I haven't officially joined or anything - I simply took a bit of time to compare my times at Indy, as that's a track I felt I am particularly strong on. If I do a time at Suzuka here, I guess you guys will beat me by perhaps 5 tenths or so at a guess... I haven't managed to get a deby gav - Grand Prix 4
Well done mate... good lap! Guess the gauntlet has been laid once more :Pby gav - Grand Prix 4
Yeah, forgot to mention that... GPxPatch 3.50 was used.by gav - Grand Prix 4
Why canĀ“t I view your hotlap?, when I try to run it, the game crash to desktop No idea mate... it's just a bogstandard GP4 install, with no add-ons or changes, other than my name, the controls, and the setup. Can other people view it? BTW, I might have got into the 1:08.6s if I hadn't ran out of fuel 10 metres short of the lineby gav - Grand Prix 4

Right ok then, I've not insulted you once, and now you've offended me twice in one post. And I'm the one with the problem? I wish there was half a moderating team here...by gav - Grand Prix 4
OK, I'm glad to see you've got bored of this, maybe this thread can return to a sensible direction, and not me trying to defend myself from people like yourself (IE only you). As I said during the week, I hope I have a go at beating your time again this weekend. Let the competition re-commence :Pby gav - Grand Prix 4
, and like I said, I'm not, and never have said anything arrogant. Arrogant would be me saying that I beat your time, and then rubbing your face in it. I can't be arrogant, as you are the faster of us. I can say that I think I can beat your time, and how easy I think it would or wouldn't be, but that would merely be a calculated guess. You seem to be the only one having problemby gav - Grand Prix 4
OK, I've read all your my posts, and all your your posts, and at no point did I offend you. The only one of us who has offended the other is you offending me, calling me arrogant. So quit being so hypercritical, and just let this be a hotlap thread.by gav - Grand Prix 4
Right, I admit I've been a little bit cocky, but I totally deny any arrogance! I really do want to know how on earth I've offended anyone. I've not directed any posts at anyone in particular, so how you can be offended is beyond me. The whole sarcy aero dyamic thing is simple humour - I'm sorry if that flew basic quality flew over your head. Lighten up a touch, you'reby gav - Grand Prix 4
OK then, how do you get to that conclusion? Kill what arguments? I kinda get the feeling you're just arguing for the sake of it... I'll check your reply tomorrow, when I get back from work, but for now, it's just gone midnight here, and I've got to get up at 6am... If you have 5 minutes spare, I suggest you read my posts for what they are, and not extract the parts that suby gav - Grand Prix 4
I meant the first Indy hotlap thread <_< You don't have to believe me when I say I can beat my time, and what I think is a reasonable estimate to what I could achieve if I stuck to the task. To be honest, I don't care if you believe me or not, the only person I would be kidding if I didn't think I could beat it, would be me. I didn't expect you to stand back in amazemby gav - Grand Prix 4
Read the other thread FFS! I said that Indy was one of my stronger circuits, and that you lot would probably murder me in Suzuka. I would be quite close in other tracks, but I think you lot would be a touch faster than me. Is is that simple enough for you, or do you just read the parts you want to?by gav - Grand Prix 4
Yeah thanks for clearing up that technical dilema for me, powerhorse... You don't see many posts of mine, do you? I'm an amatuer aerodynamacist (no joke)...by gav - Grand Prix 4
If I'm really bored at the weekend, I'll have a go. But at the moment, I've just got far too much on my plate... like typing out a panto script.... :Sby gav - Grand Prix 4
Just a matter of opinion, if it doesn't rest on your conciense, fine, as you say, it's in the rules - but it rests on my consience, and to be honest, I'm not going to start changing that for the sake of a competition that I'm not even officially entered in. I drive by my leagues rules, as my only goal is to be fast in that - this was just a short challenge to entertain me lasby gav - Grand Prix 4
I never expected any rule changes, I'm merely saying I like to keep my head above water, and race within the lines. Your choice what you do, but I define fair as having at least 2 wheels on track, kerb or white lines. To the extent that I actually insisted on having a qualifying lap excluded after I later realised I'd over ran the race track, despite the league admin telling me to forby gav - Grand Prix 4
