Just picked this up from Play.com for £17, first manager game I've played since Championship Manager 03/04 and atm I'm loving it! :D Currently I'm the boss of Leeds, won the Coca Cola Division 1 by 23 points and I'm currently top of the Coca Cola Championship! and all I've spent it 400K (250K of that on Boaz Myhill!) was expected to be mid-low table at the start of the season but after scorelines like 5-0 against Coventry and 5-1 against Watford, its gonna be a good season!

Anyone else got any of the Football Manager games here? Apparantly 09 isn't that much different from the previous ones from what I've heard.

I have the 09 game, I wanted to play with my recently relegated 2nd division team :( but I need the *crack* for the 9.2.0 patch lol. I havent finished a savegame yet because atm we are in december, when the teams start to rebuild their squad for the upcoming season. So I am waiting for a data update to play with my team in the 2nd division and a brand new squad of crap players to sell :)

Bought it soon after release when it became apparent the 3D engine wasn't crap - on that note, there's still plenty of work they can do on it, but it's very good for a 1st attempt and there's still 2D to fall back on if it annoys.

For once I didn't go for a lower team, I decided it's about time I dominated proceedings, so I took over Man City. A bit more difficult than I imagined (I normally find FM a piece of piss, and I refuse to cheat at all (including reloading)) as there are few good players interested, and about zero very good to excellent ones.

Got bored in the 3rd season (finished in the Champions League places, then lost the title to Chelsea on the last day in the 2nd season... grrrr), so when the 9.2.0 patch came out, I started a new one with Newcastle (again, hardly a difficult team to take over). Finished 4th in the 1st season, and I'm currently struggling in the 2nd season, playing well, but struggling to convert chances into wins - 9th in late November, but only 4 points behind Villa in 3rd.

That drives me up the wall so much when that starts to happen, for instance just lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace in the Qtr Finals of the League Cup, they had one chance, which they scored, I had about 15 shots but only 3 on target... It dosn't help when all your strikers decide to go on a goal drought at the same time either :@ Just brought in Carlton Cole on loan to try and get some goals going again...

I was a massive CM/FM addict but recently got put off FM 2007 (so I stayed with 06 until 2008 with a patch was out), then got tired of 2008. Too much frustration built over the years with the game (not as much results-wise as I usually won everything in which I competed) has lead me to I believe retirement from the series :(. I was almost getting excited for 2009 but from what I've read in places and heard from friends my disappointment will only grow. Perhaps it's not the same with the British leagues as there's far more detail put into those but I am not interested in controlling any Brit clubs. Goodbye FM :(.

Took Walsall to the premiership. Found some player called Alaya while in the championship, the best player ive ever seen. Chelsea took him off me for £25mill +50% next transfer.

Now in the prem ive got a poo squad. Aiming for 15th in the league.

Played 3 so far

Lost 3-1 to Arse and Manu

Beat Villa 1-0 :)

Ive heard the installing is abit extreme. To stop people pirating the game there seems to be a number of security codes to get? Can you confirm this?

Out of curiousity what FM game would you people recomend? Ive not yet had the chance of owning one but was recently looking into getting one...

So either "I cheat and just reload" or "they made it harder/realistic, so I @#$%& it". Nice.

No Gav, you're assuming wrong. I take Flamengo and always make sure to build my coaching staff and scouts to do proper work and built my own training schedules, thank you very much.

It does... it dosn't help that Ken bloody Bates is the Chairman either, Leeds current bank balance is 9.5 million, yet the pillac only lets me have 65k for Transfers atm! Henceforth the only people I can buy are people off the free transfer, who are usually crap cause they are there for a reason ;)

Have to say I agree with Gui, they changed something after 2006, and I don't know what it is but I just haven't got the same enjoyment out of it.

2006 got me completely hooked, took Tamworth up to Championship, then went to Villa and took them from League One to CL Champions, game was about 25 years in and I enjoyed it every day I fired it up.

so went out and got 2007, and just could not get into it, could take it or leave it. Same happened with 2008. Like Gui, I was still able to win so it wasnt that.

Just to see, I recently installed 06 again, and got addicted to it, so i know its not teh whoel starting over again thing.

Sega have moved it over to Steam, so you can buy it online or in the shops but you then either activate it via phone or Steam. Steam is the easiest (Although I use that term loosely) and quickest, but plenty of people have had problems activating it. You can install it on five different machines, you can also uninstall it off of one and redeem that install for another machine. Worked fine for me and its great that me and my dad can use the same copy without the DVD.

Bought FM09 on the day it came out, £25 not too bad, although I remember when it cost £19.99 at the most.

Been pretty much addicted to every single one since Champ Man 4 I think. It took me a while to get into this one, they changed the tactics around and put far more importance on individual player instructions this time around.

Currently with Cardiff in my fourth season. Got them promoted in my first and now just about to start our third season in the Premiership, mid table obscurity is where I'm aiming for.

Probably gonna regret this ;) But whys that then?

Reason I'm Leeds is because the last game I had on CM, I was Leeds and took them to the triple, so figured I'd try it again! Although its gonna be quite a bit harder this time...

I don't think you can activate it over Steam. They just use Steam as a delivery service. The activation is a separate means from a 3rd party and works the same way whether you have Steam installed or not.

I do love the activation system though. I've had it on 4 PCs since I got it (don't ask...) and it's really handy being able to have it on multiple systems.

I've noticed he's been getting good! didn't use him much in the first season and wasn't really intending to in the 2nd, but he's been much better than my usual bunch!!

Just won the Coca Cola Championship :D thought I lost it when I drew to Cardiff and Portsmouth (1 points behind) were beating Watford 1-0, but Watford scored in the 95th minute!! :D:D

I´ve got the PSP version of the game, currently I´m Man city, took them to second in the league, 3 points behind Chelsea, but 9 ahead of Arsenal. I got Miguel Veloso, he´s amazing, like Steve Mandanda, and Pavel Pongrebynak. If you have FMH09, get these three.

BTW, anyone got any reasonably cheap defenders I could get? My team is crumbling, all because of the defence.

I don't have FM2009 because I made a decision to leave it a year after the 3D engine was introduced, to allow them to iron out any bugs. However, I fully expect to carry on my love affair with the series which is currently being played out on FM2008.

They DID change something after 2006, and it's called the level of detail. It makes the game at least twice as long to play, but IMHO hundreds of times more addictive. You can see the players' faces, and they appear to age as they get older. They display emotions in reaction to recent events. For somebody like me, who gets really into the 'youth development' aspect of the game, that feature is just AWESOME.

And now that they've introduced a 3D game engine, to watch your matches in true form, I expect it will be the most addictive game I've ever played. The only thing that would make it perfect would be the introduction of the option to play the estonian national league. :)

Just as a reference for my level of addiction / sadness, my current FM2008 game was started nearly 12 months ago and I haven't got bored yet. I'm managing Liverpool, the year is 2031, and none of the game's original players are still around. EVERY player now has a pregen face, hehe. I've just surpassed the "19 days" playing time mark... that's over 460 hours of gameplay!

Nice, Loke I like that, maybe like you, I will get FM2010., not getting FM2009. BTW, not being rude, but why the Estonian league?
