I've followed this tutorial fully......

I click on the modified setup to do the sound card thing but all I get is a black screen with set up sound card and stuff and it totally freezes

whats to roll your eyes over? Thought this was the other games forum.

Its usually a sound issue, do a google for VDS sound, it sorts dos games' problems in XP.

The comment which on other forums would be described as a trolling comment.

Sometimes is nice to take a look at gp2 to be back on time. Unhappily with no sound at all, but the graphics are all fine, anyway.
Of course I'll not bother myself trying to solve it, now I have gp3 and gp4 working fine. And to tell the truth, I also believe gp2, 3 and 4 are all the same game... the difference is the technology used.

Really interesting all this "its the same thing" stuff, and then you look at F1 2001, F1 2002, F1C which are all exactly the same physics engine and graphics engine with a few tweaks, a dreadfull bunch of cars (in F1Cs case they didnt even make them! they got someone else to do them!) and the tracks ported over

If GP4 is GP2.5 then surely F1C is simply F1 2001.00005

My point? Everythings relative. GPL and the NR series used the same graphics and physics engine for quite awhile without much change. Actually i cant really think of a racing series where they have changed much from game to game.

i was looking at some NR2002 screens the other day, and i swear if i had not have known it was NR2002 i would have thought it NR2003

Personally, I think GP4 in particular feels completely differently to GP3. I made my own setups for each, and in GP3 it feels like the diff is completely locked - put the power down, and it just sails from the apex towards the outside. GP4 looks more realistic, even perfect in replays, if you get it right. It just feels right.

Looking back at games, GP4 > GP3, GP3 > GP2, they feel so dated, even if you take the graphics comparison away, it just feels so wrong.

Then dont reply - clearly judging by tae fact i got 2 serious replies that others do have an opinion on it.

The engines pretty much exactly the same. Only car reflections, pit crews and animated track side objects have changed i think

tehe :) we always have a discussion like this every year, I've recently tried playing F1C again, after about 6-7 months of playing just GPL and GTP :) tbh I just didn't like either of em anymore hehe :) I find I enjoy GTP and GPL a hell of alot more than the modern day F1 games now :) I'll give R-Factor a chance when it comes out :P GTR hmmmm, tbh I just play GTP now, don't really have any need for GTR, I'll probably wait for a bit, wait for the price to come down for GTR and buy it then :)

Anyway reason the PO is so bad in DosBOX is due to the fact that its been slowed down like buggery, cause the faster PC's and old DOS games without FPS limiters don't mix well :) sure if you find a way to just adjust the speed limit of DosBOX then it should be fine!

Which changed developers during the series so it was pretty much started from scratch every time

Same Ian - once you're into GPL and NR2003 and it's mods, I find it very hard to go back to modern F1 sims.

I fancied a blast at GP4 on the Melbourne weekend, but the urge disappeared very quickly, and the only run it's had in the past 4-6 months is when I was testing how much my new graphics card could push it.
