I get the distinct impression this guy got lucky with gp2.....gp3 was an improvement, as was gp4 (well, not to gp3...) and now this is gone too. Hmmmm :(

seems like Geoff's just been unwilling to work on games, doesn't it?

F1GP was great though, and GP2 built on it in the way Half Life 2 built on Half Life, but you are right in saying after that GP3 and GP4 didn't progress the series too much, except GP3's weather effects which were groundbreaking!

GP3 didn't make much progress, remember that we already had rain in F1GP

Yes, but the difference in the quality of the rain in GP3 was the best seen in any racing game.

yeah the weather in GP3 was stunning, i remember doing a race at buenos Aires, and the weather couldnt make up its mind, it would rain, then go dry, rain some more, be dry then rain really heavy, then be dry, it was an insane race :D

It was worse when half the track was soaking wet, and the other half had a try line on. The only problem was the AI could read the weather better than you could from the chart before the race started.

GP3 rocks, gp4 doesnt. THat's my view of it really. I mean GP4 was lovely graphics, but nothing more for me. GP3 did push the genre forward, and had it been GP3 2000 features in original gp3, I think it would have gone down as one of the greatest games ever made. GP4 is too sanitised, too distant for me, not seat of your pants, like GPL or GP3 is.

GP4 is extremly linier (spelling). you have no feel for the car, it just feels like your on rails. I used to race with hotlap setups, i would raise the ride height, and thats all, and i could easily keep up with fast AI and be consistant.

After playing GPL and NR2003 + mods I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to GP4. Even if you go with the mindframe of it being arcade/sim, it just doesn't give the impression your hurtling around a race track. Something like GPL (especially the mods with the dodgy tyre physics fixed) really does give that feel.

i'm glad it got canned. After reading his interview and his comments that 'he had no time to read about the GPx community', i think he is a pompuous ass!!! He could have taken 5 min out of his schedule to check on some of the excellent work done by the the GPx community. he could have even released some of the tools for helping with track editing since he doesn't bother releasing any updates for tracks anyway. Don' be mistaken, i love the Gpx series and think Geoff is brilliant. Too bad he thinks that of himself!!

I get that feeling with GP4 too. I have spent a lot of time working on altering physics and controller set-ups to make it feel as loose as possible, and I've got a decent set-up. OK, it means lap times are often 3 or 4 secs slower than real life, and some cornering speeds are wrong, but it does give a decent feel. The gfx, AI, tracks, collision model and weather make up for it. I will always want a modern F1 sim, so my problems come after player F1C. But the AI, tracks, graphics, and to some extent the collisions mean I always want to go back to GP4

he's talking about the updated model in the 65 mod partly but mainly in the new 69 mod as he's beta testing it.

The 69 mod actually uses exactly the same tyre physics as the 65 mod, but with slightly more grip and of course different temperature settings.

What they did was remove the annoying "Papy push" at slow speeds, which makes the car feel like your driving on ice. With the altered physics the tyres grip realistically at low speeds as you can feel the grip and understand the car better.

Also means you can slide the cars at some crazy angles and bring it back :D
