Colin McRae 04 for PC - gamepad problem

Hi there.
Yesterday I decided to install "Colin McRae 04 Rally " for PC. I set up my gamepad and started playing.
It all worked fine. I turned the PC off and went to sleep. Today, I have launched the game many times already, but no single time did the gamepad work. Only the button responsible for changing camera worked fine. I can neither turn nor accelerate/brake nor shift gears.
Why is it so? Do you know any solution? I have already tried to reset the gamepad but it didn't help.
It's strange to me because when I go to in-game "controllers" screen and adjust sensitivity , deadzone ,etc., both axes response well to the movements of the gamepad knobs.

Re-assign the actions to the buttons properly?
