Why isn't there any decent online multiplayer racing games??? I mean there are games that are good online, but then half the games that are created have passwords, loads more you connect then immediately get booted as it's a "private game" (why don't you just put a password on then, idiot?), then other times people will just randomly close the game.

been playing F1c lately, completely useless. Most of the games need updates, so i update, then the only ones that'll actually work are the ones that you could have played in the original fresh install! NASCAR thunder 2004 is the best one so far, but then you randomly get booted when you're not quick enough or just if the person decides they want to boot you, and going round in circles is so boring.

so... are there any decent online games where there are regular races with more than 5 people in a race, where you don't get booted for driving along nicely or whatever?

I think the question you need to ask is "are there any decent online communities?". There are many decent online games (GPL, NASCAR Racing 2003, rFactor, LFS to name a few), but like you point out its the people who play them.

I only personally have experience with GPL drop-in races, and never had any problems. On the whole the GPL community seems very friendly and willing to help. You could also try joining a league like UKGPL which caters for the uber fast, to the people who arent by putting them in divisions, although the rules they run arent to everyones liking.

leagues are the only way to go for online racing really, infinately more enjoyable.

edit: If you're after pickup races though, LFS is definately you're best bet, followed by rfactor.

Ah, yeah you're right... it's the people, not the games! I have Grand Prix Legends, but couldn't get the multiplayer bit to work for some reason, when it asks for an IP, I put my own in but nothing happens, unless I'm doing it all wrong, I only had a very quick look at it, wasn't too good at the game. How would I go about joining UKGPL?

LFS? Live for Speed? Is that difficult to get hold of? I had a look on amazon, they don't seem to have it...

Thanks for the replies :)

You're in luck, theres a new thread which goes into enough details to get you going -> [www.grandprixgames.org]

As for UKGPL, goto [www.ukgpl.com] and theres a link to the Yahoo group where you can signup. I suggest you read about it first because as I said earlier, some of the rules arent to everyones liking.

It's a download only game :) You download it, which lets you play in the demo mode, and then you can buy an unlock code which unlocks all the cars and tracks. [www.liveforspeed.net] is your location for that.

NASCAR Thunder has the same net code as F1C and its best described as "bucket of shite" at best.

If you want nascar races, then nascar racing 2003 by papyrus will blow anything by EA out of the water. And you'll still find a million and 1 pickup races on the official servers.

LFS and GPL have already been covered. rFactor works online, its good but hardly anybody uses it. GTR "works" online but its far worse than F1C. GTL works online, but it isnt an improvement on F1C.

Realisticly, your looking at NR2003, LFS and GPL for online races

Great, I'll try GPL first as I already have the game, and download the demo of LFS. :)

Thanks for the help everyone. :)

EDIT: just looked for NASCAR 2003, got this: [www.amazon.co.uk] £60! Looks like nobody has it anymore then!

Yeah it's rather difficult to get hold of these days, if it wasnt for the GTP mod and WOSEC i'd sell my copy.

That's because servers can be bloody expensive. The servers around are generally rented out by companies for not insignificant sums of money, so understandably leagues don't want randoms on them. They're invite only. Pick up races on the other hand are crap for a reason. Loads of clue-less guys not able to get into leagues generally race in them.

Leagues are the way to go.

If you want to get something a bit different, buy the criminally overlooked trackmania.

Hi all,

I'm working on an online Formula One Management simulation,

it's early days yet, but it will allow for realtime multiplayer racing

control over pitstop, car and driver strategies - plus access to live feed.

You'll be able to react to things going on in the race and alter strategy in
realtime.

I'm programming it in sucha a way that other programmers will be able to write plugins to view races with the data that can be exported.

it's at [www.pitstopboss.com]

Any suggestions/questions are more than welcome!
