First, why Quake 4, and not the usual Quake IV :-o

My copy arrived in the post this morning, and I have a good feeling this will show Doom 3 was a great game base, just a rubbish game (actually Quake 4 is developed by Raven).

Without having played it yet (just installing) it seems to take over from where Quake II left off (even has the same basic weapons!) which is great, and then adds a Quake III style multiplayer game, so it's probably time to say goodbye to a load of free time.

Pretty system intensive though I'll admit: P4 2 GHz or Athlon XP 2000, 512 Mb RAM and as we know from Doom 3 a huge power card.

I just can't help thinking how slow this game will play at 1920x1440 (you know who you are ;))

damn, my pc just scrapes the minimum specs then! :|

yea, single player is Q2, multi is Q3, though it looks rather limited imo, for MP anyway.

Gfx engine is the same with Doom3 from what ive heard. Just with better charachter faces (less plastic feel). Just hope the game is just a little more interesting than Doom3 gameplay-wise

Don't have it, but let me know what it's like, and if positive, I'll post up a picture of an X800XT on fire.

I read it's just average, basically the same as Doom 3 except for more monsters and more shooting, no need to try to hide or something while fighting, as the monsters just stay in the same place shooting or attacking. I'd post the link, but it's in Portuguese :P

I am confused....obviously D3 was like singleplayer only (realisticaly) so I expected Q4 to be multiplayer, but its mainly Q2 esque if i understand it right.

Quake 4 SP is Quake 2
Quake 4 MP is Quake 3

Thats what they said in a magazine. They said mp was pretty average. I doubt SP is much better.

Baring in mind that recommended specs are usually the realistic minimum specs.

" CPU doesnt support the Intel Streaming SimD Extenstions (SSE) "

but my pc is a Athlon why would i want this....

can anyone help me with this error......

Or something like a cfg file that bypasses this thing so i can

Which athlon is it? It should have SSE. Try running windows update for a CPU driver (sounds weird, but they have them)

Ah ha. Old Athlon, one of the originals. No luck mate. Needs an SSE instruction set.

Your CPU isn't fast enough apparently anyway.

I would expect it would, apparewntly it runs rather well on most PCs, while still looking good. But that SSE issue I dunno whether Serious Sam will like / dislike.

If Doom3 works, I'm rather surprised Q4 doesn't tbh...
