I've been trying to convince my American K*bots counterpart to re-write the rulebook using metric measurements, but American kids still learn the Imperial system!! Bloody backwards-thinking rednecks...

The funny thing is that in Germany when you want mince (or meat or other food stuff) you'd always order a pound, half a pound or a quarter pound (which incidentally is exactly 500gr, 250gr or 125gr over here). If you ordered 125gr of mince at your butchers you'd get weird looks. Gram or kilogram are actually only used if you want exactly 167gr or 1.345 kilos.

REHAB IS FOR QUITTERS

Interesting. That's pretty handy actually. Of course, like all good measurement, pounds would have typically varied from place to place, but at this stage the international standard is used here (which was the English standard, so was probably always used)

Standard pound = 453g = 16 ounces

therefore:
Half pound = 227g = 8oz
Quarter pound, as in your quarterpounder burger = 114g = 4oz

There or there abouts.

Of course, I'd never go into a butchers and ask for 125 grammes of anything really, I think you can just about get away with half a kilo without getting something heavy thrown at you.

Even a quarter of a kilo is risky.

A looong time ago in Brazil I'd order for 215g of mozzarella cheese, about 400g of mini french rolls... it was never a multiple of quarters :P.

Especially the French rolls...400g of French rolls sounds downright silly.

RIGHT! This whole thing is getting rather silly!

mortal back in that day I didn't even use a computer, much less a camera ;). Loppernicus, that would come up to about 20 mini rolls, I then devoured most of them the same night :P.
