Is there any way to install Windows 7 over XP without having to format? Coz some games/apps take an eternity to install so I don't wanna do that.

Nope, and it's never recommended in the instances when you can do an in-place upgrade (eg XP to Vista).

Back everything up, start from scratch and you'll benefit in the long-run.
