do people still play half life/counterstrike etc?

Basically i found an old copy of far cry that i played through on my laptop (friggin awesome game, ps), and now i'm in the mood for some online FPS'ing - problem is though it'll be through my laptop so I'll need some of the older, less taxing on the machine kinda games. Thus the subject title - what would be the best game that still has a decent amount of online players?

Quake Arena maybe? You could try RTCW, it's a free download. I used to play Red Faction when it first came out, I've still got the discs somewhere, might have a look at that again.
