its because of the way your sound drivers are installed (basically, the people who wrote the drivers did it wrong)

Ah I see, I shall try reinstalling my drivers.

I did a little dance too.

It's basically a few tweaks here and there, bringing together a few new technologies and then rolls up most of the patches into one download.

The best thing about it is that it removes the limit of 10 half open outbound TCP connections, something 3rd-party patches did anyway I believe.

It's about as exciting as a colostomy bag. :P

I still have Windows 98 and it rocks!

EDIT: not in this PC as I have XP but the other PC works better

Tried all the steps, and still no sound. I can get sound by testing the speakers, but then when i go to play a song in iTunes or something i get nothing.

I should probably get my Uncle's laptop upgraded from SP0 to SP2

You'll need to get SP1 installed first.

Unlike previous OSes, Vista, Server 2008 and 7 all need the previous service pack installed first due to the way the update layer works.

Got sound working! Just uninstalled everything from device manager (again) and reinstalled (again) and this time it's worked.

Am I the only one that think's Vista is actually good lol?

Has always ran fast and stable for me!

It's a fantastic OS with 1 real flaw (the Explorer views resetting themselves).

The real problem is that people got used to XP, completely forgetting that nothing worked with the last big OS change, when we moved to Win2000 (which was the reason why Win ME was released). Even XP, based entirely on 2000, had big compatibility problems for the first couple of years.

That Win7, which is just Vista but a bit more scalable, is getting rave reviews from most of the Vista haters says it all really. It just proves that the Mojave Experiment, despite being an MS promotion, was completely right.

Yep. Nah I'm an XP fan but I've used 7 and I know it's going to be MEGA when it's released. I shall absolutely, definitely upgrade to 7 when it's released.

What I'm hoping is that SP2 for Vista will make it slightly more usable before seven is released.
