Had to reinstall XP - no big deal, done it before at least every other week. This time my soundcard, a Santa Cruz/Turtle Beach (an oldy but goldie) with a Terratec Wavetable Daughterboard refused to install. Since the Santa Cruz has had been discontinued right after the Year of The Great Wind there was no chance for new drivers. I tried all sort of IRQ, I/O and other port changes - you name it, I did it. Then - in a sudden outbreak of pure genius - I just changed the PCI slot the card was in and hey presto! - all of a sudden the VERY SAME ressources don't cause conflicts anymore. But what do you expect from an OS that asks you to hit the START button to shut down the system.
