the right divx software

hi i am recording alot of stuff in to my hard drive from the DVB
card "races, movies, music......" anyway i am out of space lately
so i had to convert these files from mpg2 and vob to most likely
avi or as they call it divx file but until now i didn't got the
right program to do it i tried alot from Ashampoo, DivXCreate,
Dvdx, VirtualDub, and alot more but i didn't get the quality that
i am looking plus the small size...
i got some movies like sings and The Girl Next Door from some friend
"who didn't know who converted them" the those are in very high
quality with just 700mb for the whole movie
so if anyone know what is the right software to do this i hope he
can share it "not the software just the name" and i will take it
from there
