GP4 has different carshapes for each car, and each car has 4 different shapes. these shapes are all different levels of detail. when close, it uses a high level of detail so the car looks kool. when its far away it uses a low level of detail with fewer polys on the car so the game runs better, having to load less polys.
As you get closer the to the car, it shifts up through the level of details until it gets to the max, and wehen its changing through them is when you will see the shape change slightly.
This is why it does that.
If you have a slow computer, you can open each shape up in Z-Modeler, the carshape editor, and alter the shape so the jump between them is smaller, or gone.
If you have a fast compute,r you can simply use the highest level of detail even when the car is far away by copying the high level shapes over the low ones, so it loads the highest one at all times
