Yes, but would any of those have had the impact that Microsoft have had? If it wasn't for MS, I suspect that the computing world wouldn't be as big as it is now!

Because they helped popularize the use of the personal computer, and without them you wouldn't be reading this message, because it wouldn't exist?

It wud, Netscape were the kings and are still strong. The ONLY reaosn i use Microsoft products is because every program is designed for it. Why get linux? It might be better than M$ and it might be £100 cheaper, but M$ rule the computing world so much that everyone designs for it.

Unfortuantly this means the more Micorpoofs control the comp world, the higher they can stick the prices (within reason).

yes, exactly LS. Mac designed the windowed enviroment, not microsoft. Mac deisigned the Graphical user interface because there comps were speciaifly for gfx deisng at the time

I wasn't talking about browsers, I was talking about OS.

M$ rule the computing world so much that everyone designs for it

Because MS were the ones who really pushed for computing to be powerful, not just with the technology, but commercially as well. Sure, their commercial tactics might have been similar to a certain MS (cutting up any rivals!) we all know and love [sic], but you can't deny that MS have had a gigantic impact on the computing world.

i think you need to be thanking apple mac, windows was nicked from that format and interface

Yep, not denying that. But the one thing that set Apple and MS apart was that MS commercially were always strong, whereas Apple had their weird days which ended in Steve Jobs being sacked.

He shouldn't name his daughter Blow than. If he did she could team up with this nice Korean girl from the Bang family her parents named Gang.

FYI without all the pithy remarks....;-)
Installed DX9 over 8.1 on a P3 866/ Win ME / (brought back system restore and set a manual restore point just in case) SB Live/ Voodoo 5500 AGP. GP4 was properly patched already......

No negative issues to report, runs the same, no improvement graphically, EAX sound seems better, more crisp. GP3 2000 and GPL also run ok as well.....

Reading through the above, does this mean if GP4 ever needs to be reinstalled, it won't run with a pre existing version of DX9 on the system??
