Guys i have a question. Since i first look at this thread i thought this work of yours is absolutely wonderful!!!!!! But a thought crossed my mind... Do you plan also more season track packs like for Pedro´s (Ripping Corpse) MODS? It´s great to have the community working together. Some doing seasons mods and others the tracks.

A semi 1989 mod is included in 1988 mod. That might be updated.

Kimi forever!
Guys,

Just wanted to say what a crucial job you are doing, for 2 reasons:

- The brilliance of modder Pedro (aka Ripping Corpse) who has done a simply superb job in resurrecting the 80's F1 Turbo era. His mods demand and deserve proper accurate historical tracks for his work to be fully realised, and your WIP with '88 will go some way to helping his mods achieve the full effect.

- In order for GP4 to survive as a retro platform (pre 2000 era) it needs old tracks, simple. For me, rFactor is ahead in the field of retro f1 modding only because it contains so many more old tracks that provide a much more historical feel - and although the game itself has more features than GP4, in terms of playability and AI it is still lags behind. These new tracks will provide a much needed boost to the GP4 series.

So keep up the good work, it is VERY much appreciated. Without old tracks, no matter how good a mod is it can never be fully enjoyed. (Y)

Hi Plodekk,

Always great news to hear new tracks being planned, so I welcome whatever you choose to release but I endorse the suggestion of CarlosTex.

My great desire is for someone to produce a trackpack for 1985, a time when tracks were probably at their fastest and least chicane-infested. Fundamentally, there was very little change on the track calendar between 1988-1990, so for me I think that there is very little benefit of releasing track packs for 1989 and 1990 for example when your finished 1988 trackpack would be more than sufficient to run the 1988-1990 season mods.

What is really badly missing from the GP4 track community as I've previously mentioned are tracks to go with the mods from 1979-87. When Pedro aka RippingCorpse releases the 1984 mod which should be quite soon now, to all intents and purposes we will have 1979, 1982, 1983, 1984 as live projects with 1985 and 1981 as WIP - but still without any authentic trackpack to go with these mods.

As I mentioned earlier, I really welcome the release of your 1988 trackpack as it will be the 'best fit' for the '82, '83 and '84 mods, but even then we must remember that by 1988 a number of new tracks had appeared: Suzuka, Hungaroring, Jerez, Hermanos Rodriguez, and the likes of Osterreichring, Dijon, Paul Ricard (long), Kyalami, Zandvoort and Brands Hatch which had all featured in the 1985 season had gone. So I think it is fair to say that, from 1985 onwards there was a great deal of change to the track calendar mainly due to reasons of safety and some FISA politics.

I'd like to see you guys go for maximum impact, and release a ground-breaking project that would incorporate a 1985 trackpack which would act as the foundation for all the pre-1985 season mods which Pedro has worked - and is continuing to work, so hard on.

Thoughts?

Hello chasey and plodekk.

@ chasey

I agree with you on the matter of GP4 vs RFactor. The latter never replaced GP4 because its AI sucks really. The amazing thing Rfactor has is the simulation of engines and individual car physics. If GP4 had this the most of our problems regarding simulation of the cars and performance would be solved. Stick a fork in Geoff Crammond.

@plodekk

Dude your work on this tracks is so great that immediately i thought i would be great that you made packs for the great Pedro mods. As for newer mods i have high hopes that Pedro will do the entire 1980´s season. He should be doing 87 at least, Piquet World Champion. But proper tracks to race these cars on is a must. I mean it´s not fun to see 1982 cars in melbourne.

Great stuff! (Y)

I realise of course that you will have to go with the majority, but my worst fear is that without any enthusiasm out there for making a pre-88 trackpack talented modders like Pedro aka RippingCorpse may lose interest, and that's the last thing the community would want at this stage.

Not having the correct tracks for Pedro's mods are a bit like you having your favourite Steak dinner....only without the Steak!

A 1984, or 1985 trackpack I think would be perfect for Pedro's mods. I gave 1985 only as an example of the last year of the really 'fast' tracks before they began to disappear, so the thought of driving on tracks like Ricard, Osterreichring, Kyalami, Hockenheim etc should be more than enough to whet the appetite of most GP4 gamers.

Personally speaking, I think that you guys and Pedro stand on the verge of making a real breakthrough in the GP4 retro mod community, and it's with the highest of compliments when I say that you all need to wrap yourselves in cotton-wool and stay indoors for the next 12 months - lest something bad happen to you all!:-)

Plodekk i have to thank you. This thread is really satisfying in a sensa that prayers are answered. These tracks look great, it´s greater to see how much work you guys put into this!!! Even when you have these packs finished some tracks can be used for other season packs with liveries modifications etc... It is absolutely gratifying watching this amazing work from the community. By the way, i´m not talented in this kind of stuff, but (with my deepest and sincere modesty) i think there is a small thing where i became quite good. Which is editing physics/performance stuff.

I believe there must be a balance between some factors. Realism, gameplay and fun. Sometimes too much realistic values in performance/physics does not work well because of GP4 engine limitations. What i´ve done for me works IMHO great. I keep driver performance levels around GP4 stock values, so the game does not become too easy or too hard. For engine BHP a balance must be achieved between the physics and the real engine value because each car has it´s own physics but because there is only 1 physics to all cars this is where i do my work. As we get more and more mods, i try to make them work together trying to achieve the best balance between the factors. Throughout the years aerodynamics really improved so i compensate these values for each season.

Right now i´m working on Pedro´s 1983 MOD physics/performance for my personal use, but if it is OK with him i will release it to the community. I also prefer a little bit more random results, let´s say for instance, in 1983 Piquet has a little bit more probability to win the championship than Prost but it´s close. Others might win also although with a much lower probability.
