DirectX 9 - Beta 9.3b

I've found a site where you can download a BETA release of DirectX 9. I've downloaded it, but I havent tested it..but when it ran thu the DirectDraw tests etc etc it ran fecking fast, thats all I can say for now...off to test.

It expires in January, by then the proper release will be out so no probs there.

Okay GP4 tested with it...

Definite improvement. I found that despite my PO percentage being high, it didnt have any effect on the performance - it does with DirectX 8.1.

Better looking, better PO performance (less load), and I could crank my FPS higher too.

But GP4 isnt a good test game, anything else will probably show a massive improvement.

I'll d/l it and try it out since I have a lot of games including UT 2K3, GP4, Descent 3, GPL, Nascar 2003 etc

whats with the warning about having to reinstall windows if you don't have a valid beta direct x id and acess to the betaplace website when it expires?

Yeah thats why its better if you have ME / XP so you can do system restore back to 8.1 when it has expired. But as I say, the final version of 9 is coming out in December....

Nope. MS hardcode dates into the software so it wont work. I dunno how they do it, but even if you set your system clock back and install it the thing wont work. I had this problem with Motocross Madness 2 beta.

thats cos its put into the registry and runs on its own clock. Tried removing the battry? It will reset the clock and BIOS

but you could search the registry for all DX-related entries and kill them. Besides, it won't be long before the first DX9 crack comes out anyway.

No DX remover does work for Windows9x (or so I've heard), but not for ME or XP - cos you can just use system restore and revert back to the previous version.

I personally wouldnt worry about it because before the beta expires the final version or a new beta will be out anyways
