Just go for the best you can find!

In processor terms, an athlon XP processor is probably your best bet. They're mega fast, and mega good. But get a mega fan if you're going to get one. THey go up to 2100+, i think. My 1600+ is fine, though.

Graphics - a top of the range GF4 Ti would be the best you could get, I think. And obviously it would rock for GP4....;-)

And don't forget RAM! There's no point having a great system if you don't have much RAM to help it with. 512mb of DDR RAM is more than enough for anyone...!

and yes plenty of ddr ram would do the job nicely...not forgeting a top notch moutherboard..epox are good.......and while your at it get a biger better hard drive..........:)
A 21inch monitor...........:)
A: Cambridge soundworks dolby digital decktop theater 5.1..with sounblaster live card.....:)

Don't go for the best there is, but go for something a little under the best. Because the best is always horribly expensive for not much more than just under the best.

The first one is the best. But the most expensive, surely!

intel p4s are more stable i.e good at every thing!!!
amd 19+ runs faster then p4 2000 for games & graphics

i would go for amd as i already have one 19+ but you need a big @!#$ off fan(they run very hot)!!!!!

with
512ddr 333mhz
gf4 ti4600

you you will not go wrong with that setup!!!!

No! I can't believe U. I think the 3rd is the best. LOL. For me, the 2nd is the best in the quality/price relation. I think this will be my new computer...
For moce configurations, go to [www.chip7.pt]
It's in portuguese but it's easy to understand.

The second is still a powerful system. If you're on a budget, you should go for it, because it's very upgradeable.

I had a bad experience with AMD back in the K6 days.

I upgraded my sons pc from 233mmx Pentium to K6-2 500 with Asus board new mem etc - WORST BUY I EVER MADE.

Always ran like a dog - incompatible with many bits of software especially W98SE !!! Always crashing - large file corruption big wad files in games and big zips always corrupting. Even Drive Image Backups would fail verification sometimes.

Spent 100's of hours on it - never did find out the cause, eventually gave him my old Intel PIII 600E overclocked to 784 with GE2GTS - stable as a rock ! As is my PIII 1.0 GHz.

I am tempted by what I read about AMD performance for upcoming upgrade but "Once Bitten Twice Shy" as the old saying goes.

Also a friend is tech specialist in local IBM servicepoint. He says whenever they have a "Friday machine" that nobody can fix that then needs to be replaced - IT IS ALWAYS AMD !

He says he would never give one houseroom !

Pentiums are a lot more reliable and stronger than AMDs, but that reliability comes at the price of performance. Having said that, if you have a good fan and a decent motherboard, the AMD chip will be just as stable as the Pentium chip.
