the 98 mod atleast has awesome an awesome soundset, which is compatible with mods from 99-2003 etc too.

is it any different from releasing the williams from the commercial 'race driver' game, where the authors of the car models programmed for the Race driver game program games for a living, where as the 1998 cars were probably made as a hobby? the Russian 1998 mod guys after all they did respected that they werent the original authors of the car models.

i know its boring, but am i right? i just find it a double standard. the guys who made the 1998 mod for gp4 are probably just like you having fun and doing it for a hobby, but are labeled as leachers, and its taboo to play the mod.

Please stop talking about leeching! The licence agreement says you are not allowed to modify and distribute any game files. Geoff Crammond still has copyright for his game. You would have to ask his permission to release any cars, mods etc. It may be hard or even impossible to contact him, but still you don't have any copyright for your updates. In fact they are illegal! It just a fact and you have to accept that.

If you were to take this sentence alone, what it says is if you use any part of the game to modify or distribute it is illegal. If I create my own car shapes and textures (albeit in .gp4 and .tex files format), and release it, it is neither modifying or distributing the game files, I am releasing my own car with my own textures, though they are designed for that game.

Thank you for making this clear. So if you create cars from scratch it's ok but if you eg. make textures for the original carshape, then it's illegal.

I've not looked into it, but if he's quoted that sentence and that was all that was written, then creating and releasing is not illegal, the illegality comes when one installs it.

Any updated to this?

Could someone change it so we've either got "Complete" (everything i.e. tracks, cars from that year) and "Semi-Complete" (cars, but no track).

I was going to create this thread, but I found it instead. Went off topic a bit there, but the list is a very good idea. Lots of these mods are on different websites as well so links would be greatly appreciated.

Can we add WIPs as well?

So there is a 1996 WIP and a 2009 WIP, any others?
