isn't the title misleading?
The Ultimate Track Editing Guide V1
quote from the guide:
I've not written it to encompass everything that you must do to make a track, just a few tips, and some info to get you started.
;)

anyway, good job.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy

ok, I read the 3dsmax part 7-8 times already and tried to built some land, but I don't get any new land.
Is there any other more user friendly way to built land round a track?
I tried the fence method, and that one seems to work fine, but is it possible to built a second strip of land after a generate strip? I made a 5 m. strip, but that's not enough.

Anyone with 3DS max knowledge who wants to help me?

Edit: I also had a look at Bryce 4 for modelling a landscape, but it seems that importing a .3ds gives weird results.

I don't see exactly what the problem is, all you have to do is select the edges you want from the banks / bottom of the rails, and then shift drag out. You can do this as many times as you wish, and then move it any direction you like, or use soft selection to create a smoother landscape

Hey zeppelin,
Did you ever encountered an "Illegal new face" error in 3DS max
(Selection - Polygon is selected)
Next I used the create function
When drawing polygons, sometimes i get this message

I try to close the gaps between created polygons.

Occasionally, I believe it's caused by verts not being welded, but I'm not actually sure.

You could just select the border (border sub-object mode) and then use cap, that ought to work to the best of my knowledge.

Well it's how I create headlights anyways :)

Hi guys, I have a problem...my track crashes when gp4 starts to load it and in 3DEditor when I try to do a "virtual lap" about 1000 error windows (Violation d'accès à l'adresse 005423F2 dans le module '3DEditor 17.6.exe' Lecture de l'adresse 03890018) pop up, always in the same section of the track...any idea? :D
thanks

With a 'virtual lap' you mean the 'view one lap from track cameras' option of 3DEditor?

In that case, it runs fine, no problem at all.

I try to load the dat file in gp4.

@ zeppelin101:

When modelling the land with 3DS max are there specific rules when building
the land (number of poly's to use.)
Is the terrain I'm moddeling going to kill the framerate? (see screenshot)
