Hello Guys! Need Help getting back to GP4.

Hello Everybody!

I've seen the high quality of the new cars and tracks released, and got motivated to reinstall GP4.

I used to have the game installed in a windows XP partition in my macbook pro, but this OS is not supported by apple anymore. Should I install GP4 in windows 7 or windows 10? I've had many issues trying to run GP4 in windows 7 in the past...

Any advice?

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome back.

I personally run Windows 7 (Ultimate) and I've never had issues with compatibility. Windows 10, on the other hand, seems to be proving quite problematic for quite some people here. I've seen multiple threads on the topic.

I don't know about your issues on Windows 7 specifically, but I would recommend it still.

Have fun playing GP4 again. :-)

I use Windows 7, no issues at all.

I've tried on both and had far less problems using Windows 10. With Windows 7 I had to tweak various settings and run in compatibility modes but on Windows 10, all I needed to do was set it to run as an administrator and it worked fine.

Just make sure you download the 9.6 patch first.

only just had to reinstall it on Win7 yesterday, works perfectly fine

- install gp4 (best not in program files due to possible write protection issues, I put it to c:\games\gp4)
- install patch 9.6
- put in the noCD.exe, set comp XP SP3 and run as admin
- run the game to calibrate graphics and sound, save on exit
- install gpxpatch, set exe comp to XP SP3 and run as admin
- install ZazTools (also not program files, I put it to c:\games\zaztools)
- set csm.exe to run as admin

Is there any advantage to installing? I downloaded the game from GP4 Central, and it says you can but don't have to.

For GP4 I don't think there is any advantage to installing over just extracting the "pre-installed" GP4 Central package.

ZaZ Tools, on the other hand, must be properly installed.
