Game not loading... help

I have just installed the game from CD and am trying to load it straight after install

Have not installed any gpxpatch or anything as yet

but I seem to get is a frozen black screen.

Running windows 8 operating system

Any help welcome?

Yeah in future check the GP4FAQ (sticky topic) before posting

But the solution is right click on GP4.exe -> Properties -> and set Compatibility to run in Windows XP SP3

I have done that.

I have tried running on service pack 2 and 3 but still get the black screen

I don't know what to do

also I can not seem to find the gp4faq

And it only has things to do once you install gpxpatch and csm etc

Does anyone know how to fix the issue when trying to run the game direct from install?

Why running the game direct from install? Have you installed the official patch for GP4?

I'm a total dick. How many people can say that?

I have installed it yes

And I would just like to make sure the game actually runs on my laptop before I start spending time trying to update it

ah that problem. I had the same thing on mine laptop.
You need to run everything you want to install on windows 8 in windows xp sp3 mode with administrator modus on. that way it will always work

I have tried that but always leaves the game with just a black screen resulting in me having to hard restart the laptop.

Also my csm does not seem to work, and comes up with an error message

"unable to retrieve list
This could have several reasons. Make sure you have configured your firewall properly or perhaps the server just timed out.
Also its possible that you can't retrieve the version list because of a proxy"

Any suggestions

GPxPatch is quit essential for GP4. My advice is to install this program.

Create an XP partition if all else fails. You have a number of threads with similar problems, if you fix anything please mark the threads as fixed please.

Try installing GPxPatch as above, I know for some people, me included, that the game doesn't seem to run without GPxPatch and Debug mode on, so try that next

Black screen issues are related to a wrong screen resolution if I'm correct.
You can fix this by editing your f1graphics.cfg file. Don't forget to enable the screen res tweak a line above the screen res lines.

Alternatively, black screens can occur if your firewall is blocking GP4.

I will also look into the config file as i changed the resolution numbers in that file but nothing took effect as of yet

Go to: Control Panel -> System and Security -> Windows Firewall -> Allow a program through, then find GP4 and give it permissions

Make sure you've set the first line like this:

1 ; f1graphics.cfg controls all settings (default 0)
