Back on the game after ten years - what to do?

Hey guys,

Havent been playing the game for a decade. Started to follow the F1 again this season cause of Räikkönen and Lotus - and the GP game bug bit me last night.

So,

I would love to update my game as up-to-date as possible. But Im bit lost how to do it. Ive found the 2012 MOD and also downloaded a 2013 trackpack, that is a one big .tup file, absolutelly clueless what to do with that, as much as with the 2012 MOD's .cuh file. What Ive done is ive dl'ed the latest patch and a gpXpatch version 402. Dont know what the heck that is though.

So what im looking for, is steps how to get my game up to date. Would love to get 2013 team lineups.

All help appreciated.

Welcome back. :-) First up, 2013 is not yet available. To run the CSM mod download and install Zaz Tools. Get that from gp4db.com. Your vanilla installation must be running perfectly before you can install a mod. That is patched and v1.02 no-cd. Those two files are in the GP4 download section. Set gpx_patch to 0 cpu, set debugging to medium verbosity, that way if GP4 does a forced exit it will generate a log, which you post here for us to read in your error log thread. SEt GP4 compatibility to XP SP2 and run in admin, all the rest should be fine. There is a lot of info in the GP4FAQ as well. Have fun. :-)

Thanks a lot for the help.

Frankly Im still struggling with this, lol. I dled the 2012 MOD and the Zaz tools program. When i open the CSM to get the MOD working, I get an error saying something like "problem when sending command to the program" (its in Finnish). The CSM opens though and it get this msg from it;

Unable to retrieve list
This could have several reasons. Make sure you have configured your
firewall properly or perhaps the server just timed out.
Also its possible that you cant retrieve the version list because of a proxy

Tried to look for the forum FAQ's but didnt find help with this..

TSM does work apparently and am installing 2013 trackpack right now.

PS: I flagged off my antivir and firewall and reinstalled the Zaz Tools.


EDIT: oh, hold on. might have a hang of it now..
The message "problem when sending command to the program" has to do with security settings of Windows 7. Instead of double clicking on the *.cuh file of the mod, you have to open CSM first and choose the option to install a carset.

The message "Unable to retrieve list

Thank you sir,

Yeah I figured that I ought to open the CSM first. Then I "install carset/update", let it load and then go with the start button and play. Is this the right way to do it, or should I play somehow through the xPatch? I came accross with someones 2013 Beta MOD, it was pretty impressive with all the vid's and stuff, but it crashed when I tried to race. I was bit troubled with it in the first place as the MOD was in two different CSM files.

So then I did the same with the 2012 MOD and it went well until I pressed "esc" to end qualifying session in the first GP. Was able to drive saturday practice before that. So Im thinking Im gonna reinstall the whole game now and go directly with the '12 MOD if it'd help.

Oh yeh, the game said Id be starting off with Bahrain GP but it was Australia after all, dont know how to fix that either. Im an utter noob with this.

Got the game running with the 2012 MOD teams, but cant get the trackpack going.

I open up the TSM, click install track, choose the whole trackpack and it does its thing for few minutes and says "done". How ever when I go play the game, the tracks are still the same? What else do I need to do? Also, cant get the resolution better than the 1k x 700. In some forum I found someone saying to edit the graphic cfg file in the game folder and I did what it said, but no help there.

]GP4 Spa 2011[/url] and the graphics are pretty impressive. Me wants that too :(
-Hud's. I got two HUDs on my game, the otherone is prolly the original and the other one is the MOD one (has DRS), the latter one is literally ON the circuit map. And double info on the screen all together apparently.

Sorry for the trouble. Been googling and uTubing a lot to get this sorted, but simply cant :/


EDIT: I think I know how to get the tracks now (choose the list on CSM)

Re-installed the game once more and got it working. Got the tracks and got the MOD going now.

The remaining problem holds with the HUD. Still got two different ones, and now the circuit map part is just white blank with the MOD hud on top of it. On the bottom right remains the orinigal meter.

You can deactivate the original meter and circuit map under options->graphics
