Creating / Editing Onscreen Graphics & Overlays

Hello, is their a guide / someone available who can explain how I can create / edit some gpxpatch pnl onscreen overlays e.g. driver & team name graphics please? I'm using paint shop pro 8, I understand theirs 2 layers, the top and a shadow like layer underneath, im having trouble editing the underlayer. any help would be much appreciated cheers.
