sensitive steering

Hi all
have just increased my screen resolution to 1920 x 1080 after switching to a new monitor and everything is working fine except the steering sensitivity of my joypad.
Is this a normal side effect of increasing screen resolution?
I'm using a xbox 360 controller for windows.
Can someone explain the advanced settings on the control method options and which would reduce this sensitivity.
