Head to Head Multiplayer

My friend and i would like to race GP4 head to head. In other racing sims we use the windows networking components, he dials into my computer then we use IPX in the game and it works fine. We tried with GP4 and we are able to get a connection but when we go to race we are just sitting on the start line locked up, i can't even reboot i have to kill the power supply to shut down. Has anyone hooked up this way or have any ideas. Also in the manual and the read me file it says there are 4 methods of multiplayer- serial cable, modem, IPX and TCP/IP, but i only see IPX and TCP/IP. Maybe if we could dial directly into the game via modem it would work. Again any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try using TCP/IP through LAN connection.
I'm not recommend a connection using line modem or even cable modem.
