i use it now in testing(1988), because i can't be bothered copying 100 more lods, and it is worse for me. even though i used mostly lod_0s before (2003).
so you might gain some fps if you already use lod_0 copied down, but if you do that then chances are you don't need any fps extra.
about larger textures v hi lods i done some quick calcs (again i'm only a beginner
).
110 lods @ 300kb=33mb
33 1024 tex @ 1.3m = 44mb
wad=77mb
assuming 22 cars are on screen it uses 44mb of textures, but 33/5 of lods ~8mb.
=52mb total
512 tex would be 11mb
so its 19mb in total.
thats filesizes only, but must have some relation to memory use.
