Im working on something "secret" at the moment.

I have an idea on how to create car headlights, but what i cant do is turn everything dark!

Can we just turn the sky dark? Or is there lighting features that need altered?

Simply put - is it easy to turn Day into night in GP4?

In GP4?
You need to adjust ambient environment light. But it's would not produce great effects for car headlight using spot light types.

I think we can use Alpha Layers to create headlights.

The brake glow obhjects can be used to control windows transparency, and if u make the alpha layer correct u can create a fade effect

I know strictly its not lights but its an effect i think we can create

How easy is it to turn Day to night in GP4?

Depend on few factors. Most important is ambient env. light itself. Then some diffuse and specular vertex colors defined in carshapes and trackshapes. I'll try to modify the ambient light first and post the pic when it can be done without modifying vertex colors.

ok kool, im working on something that to be fully appreciated needs darkness. I could make it work under day time, but it might not have the "impact" night time would have

Bad news, Ellis.

GP4 ignored and did not used lighting when rendering track shapes. Lighting only used for car renderings. Some track renderings (like tarmac, etc)using lightmap to boost performances, instead of using environment lights.

This is can me "emulated" by replacing "night" textures on track wad files. But for day/night transition, we must patch additional codes to force env. lighting on track rendering.

i didnt need a transition from day to night

Thanx for the help madman, but replaicng every track tex is too much work for me

Using transparecny effects on alpha layers i was able to create car headlights and stuff, but becuase it was day-time they didnt really do much, and looked bit odd :P

But I'm still curious about this one. I've been searching all entire codes to find at least single instruction which adjust ambient and light setting used for track rendering. I just realize that track shapes are rendered using tranformed lit method, so there is lots of code patching to convert the track rendering to be able rendered using lights and ambient environment.
