so are you able to edit them without getting funny patches showing up, ive tried them in game and the track colour is definately changed but those funny patches show up as yellow on the track surface

eg:

i thought the jellow was where the jam has been stuffed by the jam editor, i reckon if we could edit the jam properly the whole track would show up ok.

no, the yellow in the jam shouldnt be it because thats not assigned a texture

ye, i think thats what im getting at, when you try to import the new bmp int jam edito it looks fine, but if you reload the jam its all stuffed, it turns some of the jam into a green colour which i think comes out transparent in game.

also if you darken DPRD6.jam it effects the surface with bumpmapping on.
i think track surface is a combo of DPRD6.jam with either bump map or tarmacmap.

Yep, jams need to use GP3's color palette.
You must specified 256 colors bmp when you export your new bmp from your drawing tool and make sure the tool use the gp3 color palette (it's given with Jam Editor).
This way, you won't have corrupted colors in the game.

so the tracks use the software palet and not hardware?

i tried that using gp3.pal but still got corruption, maybe i did something wrong. but when you extract the .bmps from the original jam they are 24 bit not 256 colour, however the jam editor recognises them as a software jam

Hmm, the bmp saved by jam editor is a 256 colors one for me...
else i changed it too, effectively it changes bumpmapped road, but doesn't change greenish tint in mirrors (try on monza start line).

Else, i change the grey color by the "tarmac" one and got a darker road all along the track, meaning a great color when sun was front, but a slight too dark color when it was on my back : /

yes, there 256 colors, but the pallet is different order
