Can I still update GP4 with mods if the game im using isn't an original?

Said in a previous post, I'm new to this game and this website...
I have borrowed GP4 off a friend and the disc is not the original disc. The game has been downloaded and burnt to the disc. The game works fine but I'm wondering if this will affect me being able to use mod's? I have tried downloading 'TeamEditor 3.2b' but each time i open it, it says im 'using a non-decrypted GP4.exe'. I tried downloading it again and the same problem occured. Is this to do with me using a dowloaded GP4?

If anyone has any solutions I would appreciate it.

Download Zaz Tools, run the CSM patch downloader, that might fix the exe problem, get gpx_patch as well if you haven't got it already.
