small wads and no more lods...

further on from dumass's smaller-wads-means-more-ram-means-better-fps, if you tweak your gp4.exe you can set it so it only uses lod_0 (for example).

i can delete almost 30mb rom my wad, and have a full hi detailed 2003 wad at about 45mb.

might cause trouble on slower machines.

Ferrai is always high lod
Mclaren lods I copied all from 0
williams high
Renault all copied 0 lods
sauber all lods 0
jaguar all lods 0\
minardi as downloaded with low lods also
toyota all lods 0

As u see most of my cars have all 0 lods copied to remaining so they look good.So it would be better to have only one instead of others

change the last '%d' in
CAR_%s_CAR_%d_LOD_%d
to LOD_0.
make sure you insert a space after the LOD_0 otherwise you might have troubles.
it is line 0023ef10 in my hex editor.

or.
change it to
CAR_1_CAR_1_LOD_0
and you'll only have 22 ferrari, ms, lod_0s.

go up a little and change FERRARI to BLAH, and you'll be able to rename you .gp4 files to car_blah_car1_lod_0.gp4.

You're right again dumass. its the same as coopying down lod_0 as far as polys and po go. but i copy down anyway, so maybe the 30mb saved will give me a few frames extra.

yeah, if you copy down anyway then it will help u but if u dont copy down then there might not be any point.

will work for GT mod i think because overall you dont have much more (if any) polys than before because of low poly shapes

Hey b-tone, you've done this right? Is it really working on you?
Coz I've tried but the fact is my PO increase by 10!
My cars.wad was 37MB, and i've delete all the LOD except LOD_0 and the size really decrease become 20MB. But not the PO?

i've just lots of new installs, so i'm not sure if its any better.
but it should be.
although it will only be lower if your previous wad had all lod_0 copied down.

i dont really agree. po isnt some universal system, but it should work relative to your game. if you change one thing and the po goes up, then its the oine thing that causes it.
but the gpxpatch overlays sometimes give me +100 po.
and when my po is 150 the game is slow, but when its 50 its normal.
sometimes even hitting 'O' can give a 100po hit.
so its not perfect, but its ok.
and fraps is good too. but doesnt it measure fps? which should be fairly static shouldnt it? or does it measure actual as opposed to preset fps?


Anyone know exactly when the lower lods come into play?
if you put chase cam on the grid the cars that arent yours go to lod_1 i think.
something to test maybe. (make the 5 lods 5 different liveries and test that if someone wants to)

it mesures the actual fps, so if u set gp4 to 25 fps and ure getting 20 from fraps, turn down details coz ire at 125 po
