I am looking for a way to edit the menu graphics in GP4. None of the old editors seem to accept my version (even before I put on the patch)... is there any way of editing those .gpi files / an updated editor for the patched version?

csc4b can convert certain sized gpis, and a gpi ditor is coming soon apparently.

GPI is simple flat RGB color format stored as raw binary.
To obtain the image info (size, position etc) read the GPM or GPH file. Both these file is seem to be identical. Just experiment which one actually used to read size and position for GPI file.

In reality, doesn't matter who's right but most important is who's left.
