Arrows original GP4(waiting for bojan's fantasy car)

Jordan Still NEEDED....................

Some one has to make a new Jordan.I haven't seen any decent jordan out there.I have seen a couple of jordan's but they aren't so good.

Come on Viper, Ghostrider, Erwin, Bojan, Wai make a brand new jordan.

Yeah, eric and duco's ( i think) one is fab..... just maybe the monocoque needs a bit of a look at, but in game it looks great! Why not use the mp4/18 as the fantasy car? or just one of them as a test car.

Eric and duco's car is not so good.I have tried using it.Atleast the other Nicola Acciarri's car is better.but after all we need Viper or wai's car to make it better

Well cutting the heat haze option out my comp can handle it.But come on dudes we need it for a realistic 2003 racing season.

all in hi res, got most everything on high except im using static I get around 31-35 fps and 45-55 PO and my video card is a ti4200 which is ok

Sicne GP4 is a CPU intensive game u can have a GF2 MX and u can still run it decent if u have 3Ghz PC

Im running 1.2Ghz, GF 4 Ti 4200, 256Mb RAM and i lose FPS each time i install Vipers cars. I stopped usign f1 cars because of this and run the CART mod manily, and then the ITC mod when that comes out will be next on the list

Regarding performance & FPS stuff...
I made a new fresh installation, and patched it of course, and started to install my new fantasy carset; it has 11 shapes which are exactly the same, actually Wai's new MP4-18, with approx. 4000 polys. And more, I copied lod 0 to all lods. What is now your OP, you ask? Still around 100%, with all details exactly the same like my other 2003 installation with costom made cars, with all proper lods.

But in my fantasy set I'm using only 512x512 textures, and the only logical conclusion is that hi-res textures are real performance killer, lower lods isn't affecting it so much.

So, if you wan't to improve your visuals & performance in GP4, you might consider doing this: copy your lods3 in lod4, so you don't see that ugly cubic shape in your mirrors, and use 512x512 textures; the difference is really small compared to 1024x1024, maybe not worth at all for people with mid configurations.

sorry, but its really early in the morning bojan, but dya wanna explain that to me in a bit more detail? maybe in an email or something?

i guess po, polys and file saize are related.
i have mostly hi res textures with lod_0 copied to all and it works ok. po between 30 and 200. usually below 100 in race.
the jag lods for example are 635kb, so even tho they 'swap' the pc only ever uses one load which is 635kb.
but the textures are all used all the time. there is 2 at 1361kb and one 341kb.

conclusion:
the shape uses - 635kb
the textures - 3063kb

perhaps someone can disable the lower lods, so it doesnt use effort loking for and swapping between identical files.

so i agree with bojan: the only logical conclusion is that hi-res textures are real performance killer

vipers 02 ferrari comes with un downsampled textures (4mb the bigger ones!). so using those as they are would be about 13mb.

This was more an observation, I never intended to make a step by step procedure.

I'm not sure about Viper's cars, but if you use mine, you'll always find 3 types of textures; hi 1024x1024, medium 512x512 and low 256x256.

My point was that if you have medium PC configuration, and you have hi graphic settings, but still around 25-30 FPS, fighting for every FPS, maybe you could take my 512x512 textures, rename them from "teamname_x.tex" to hi_teamname_x.tex", and use them instead of 1024x1024 ones. The graphic loss will be minimal, and you'll get performance boost.

I think Viper is now including a medium car installer, which is doing the same thing.

Of course, one car won't change a thing, but 5 or more....
