win98SE or Win2000??? for GP4; gaming

I am sure youve probably read a post like this before. I have been running Win98SE for 5 years now I like it its OK- I am a HUGE gamer GP4, Shogun Total War, Colin Mcrae Rally, Ground control Ghost Recon, blah blah blah!!!! just to name a small bit.. But support for Win98 is slowly grinding to a halt!! I was thinking is WIN2000 any good for gaming (especially those graphic intensive games)??

Im not to shore about win 2000. ive been told that it not very good for games and stuff. XP may be your better bet for newer games but win98 I find that its better for gp4 and the rest of the gp games, depending on hor fast you pc is. mind you, you can do a duel install of windows 98se and win 2000 or XP. See what you find better.

Im dual booting 2000 and XP and 2000 is abosulutely fantastic (Murry Walker saying) for games, especially GP4 i get an extra 10fps in 2000 (XP 21fps, 2000 30-31fps)

whats it like with other programes with 2000?

very good preformance wise, but its not very compatible, so its best to do 2000/XP, taht way you can run anything (except dos games) :D

Some time ago, I used Win 98 SE. This os runs right in my computer with all games except for Gp4. Changing cameras in Gp4 running under Win98 occasionally makes an annoy blue screen and returns to desktop. Because of it, I format my hd and install Win 2000 pro. This os want more requierements, but it´s very sturdy and Gp4 runs perfectly here.


The only trouble that I have is with Gp4Tweaker, which generates an error in his runs. Concerning to this, I would like to tell to Madman that this morning at last I could run Gp4Tweaker correctly, just later of the new beta installation. But the second time that I try to run it, returns the error again!!!, grrrr... why happens this?

I have ABSOLUTLY no probs running any of my game including GP4 in Win98SE. I was just thinking as an overall system upgrade as 98SE is in itself old and support is running out.. Win2000 could be an option (I have an original copy of win2000) I do not have XP..
I also understand from some sources XP has some big brother (Microsoft) looking into your computer issues via I.E. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Win98SE is the best for sheer gaming, since it uses next to nothing in system resources (RAM etc) while XP uses a hell of a lot of ram just to run. 2000 is good for games, but its nothing on xp all things considered. Gaming isnt everything, and xp is good for games. Also some games have ram allocation issues with windows 2000, for example the NFS Porsche game.

XP!!! Tho 98 is best for games, they wont support it much longer.

Alot of people have different opinions between 98-XP, usually the newer the hardware, more likley that you'll prefer XP, 98 runs best with older computers as its now the lowest OS system that new games are compatible with now 95 has been made redundant. But results vary between people, you'll just have to try XP and look at the results. I find XP Home Edition is pretty crap, and if you run XP on a FAT file system, it runs very slowly. Best combination is XP Pro/Media Center on a NTFS file system.
