The Frustrations Are Setting In

Hi All,

Today, I recieved my copy of Grand Prix 4 and I just tried installing the Surfers Paradise circuit and I did what the README stated. I copied the unzip wad of Hockenheim2001 to my GP4 directory and overwrote it and then I copied the s1ct12 dat file to my circuits folder and overwrote it as well. Of course, I made a back up of the original file first and put the original file in my folder called "GP4 back up".
I started the game and Surfers Paradise didnt come up on the circuit, So can anyone tell me what I did wrong on this?

Also, I have been looking for something called "batch file renamer" so I can add a car or two to the program. Is it on some GP site?

One more note, I want to run the AMS Renault circuit and I downloaded the circuit, But it came with no installation instructions. Can someone tell me how to install that track as well?

Thanks.

The question is which version? There are about five of them.

GPxPatch 3.54
GPxPatch 3.81
GPxpatch.3.91
GPxPatch 3.83
GPxPatch version 3.33

I found the batch renamer. I am on step # 6 right now and in the image of the tutor. It shows under local files as follows:

c\
Downloads
Games
Infrogames
Grand Prix 4
Cars

Thats all it is showing. It isnt showing the 7165-sidcovery or the car folders after that. What am I doing wrong here?

BTW, I am installing the 1989 Aryton Senna mclaren car [www.racesimulations.com], So do I still do the change over from 2005 to 2001 or what? All the cars that I am adding are before this game was even released.

Have you read the GP4Faq (sticky topic) packed full of useful information contributed by the forum members :-)

[www.mediafire.com] Some say you should click it, you know you want to. :-) [www.gp4central.com] <----GP4 Central

Yes, Ive read some of it and looked over it. There was no link for 3asywad, But it said it was package with CSM, So I clicked on that link and it came up with this page [gp4tweaker.vadertrophy.com]

Which has 3 files of CSM, So I am not sure which one to download. My guess would be the csm_10_easywad.zip file.

As for the cars, I really dont want to swap out any of the cars. I just want to add a few cars to the program that I can race with. Mostly the old Marlboro Mclaren cars. Thats all I need to figure out.

You can find all necessary programs to update your GP4 from: (Except GPxPatch V3.91 and GP4Tweaker)

If you want add new car to game you have to replace one of the cars because 22 cars is maximum number of the cars in GP4.

" I started the game and Surfers Paradise didnt come up on the circuit, So can anyone tell me what I did wrong on this "

when you add a new track to gp4.....the .dat file sc1? goes to the circuits folder. the .gp4 wad file gets copied to your main gp4 directory & overwrites what is there same as dat file..the name in the circuits list when you go to select a track doesn't change...this is in the GP2001_English.gps file..english language being this example..you will see the lines to change...open this in note pad.
location " C:\Program Files\Infogrames\Grand Prix 4\MenuData\PC\GP2001"

then the track will say the name surfers paradise if you choose..
off course it needs to be said back up you original files in all cases.

Now, The question is this. When I exit the game. It says the following:

Idata/english.str
please reinstall GP4

I just completed a fresh install and I ran a quick race at Monaco before I saw this message. I havent downloaded any patches yet so far with this fresh install, So what is the problem here.

Please install first the Official Patch: [www.grandprixgames.org]

After that install the Decrypted GP4.exe (Patched Version): [www.grandprixgames.org]

Finally install the GPxPatch: [www.xs4all.nl]

Run the game by running the GPxPatch.

don't forget..if you had gp 4 installed + offical patch...
you need to delete the offical patchs registry entry other wise it will say
gp 4 is already patched when it isn't...

OK, I just installed the patches in order as follows and now when I try to run the game. It is stating that I must install dirextX 8.1 before I run the game.

I had dirextX 8.1 and was able to run the game before I installed the patches. What is going on here?

HELP.

OK...Update here...

I got the patch to work and it is working fine. I was able to install the Surfers Paradise and the AMS Renault Complex circuits which are both excellent circuits. Very well done and thanks to the people who did these tracks.

Next step and final step for me is that I need to figure out how to add the 1988 mod, So I can have the Marboro Mclarens from years ago in my sim. How do I go into doing this properly?

I want to thank all the people who have helped me on this thread in getting GP4 to work properly and to add the circuits. I appreciate all the help you guys have given me over the last couple days.

Get first CSM (Car Set Manager) 1.26: [gp4db.com]

Go to [www.motorsportfotos.co.uk], get registrated, than go to Downloads and you'll find the 1988 mod and the small fix for it, read the readme carefully but it's easy to install.

It works perfect Tony, the only 'problem' is the outdated structure of the mod, but that is just a minor thing. :)

How about the 1991 mod. Is that alot easier to install than the 1988 mod?

Here is a video that I found on youtube from F1archives.
