No Beardless, I KNOW there are higher spec'ed machines out there. I didn't want to go over $Aus3000 but opted to get a 17" lcd monitor too. Total cost I think(don't have the quote in front of me) is $Aus3380. It will be the last upgrade for a long time(2yrs?). My current pc is 800mhz/256mb ram/GeForce 2GTS. Runs gp4 with with most thngs on high or max at 23fps @1024x768 and around 90%(dry tracks). I was just interested to know what does it take to get this sim to run at 60fps with ALL the eye candy maxed out and still be below %100 in all circumstances. Maybe beyond any pc at the moment.......

I will post figures when i'm able.

I have pretty much the same spec and U will have no problems running everything super quick and most importantly GP4 will just fly, whatever settings u set it to use!

Once u get it, sit back and watch the world whizz past! ;)

Little bit of an update...the shop where i had this pc built put the wrong cpu chip in(3.04ghz with a 533mhz fsb instead of a 3.0ghz with the 800mhz fsb which is faster) The chip should be here next week...I have set everything to highest detail(of course) and all options on ie bumpmap, etc, resolution to 1280x1024. Let gp4 run and tell me what average frames it would use.
Must admit to being disappointed at first...it suggested 35 frames. Reran and got to 40fps. So started the game at that level and noticed cpu occupancy never got past %60. Looking good! So I manually changed fps to 60fps(max) and restarted. This time cpu occupancy varied between 70 and %130 all tracks, (dry, haven't done wet yet) and oh so smooooooth! I wanted to keep cpu occupancy around %100 so I have set frames to 50. This is very smoooth and fast and you get the sense of speed. By the way OS is XP....too much hassle trying to use ME which would probably run it faster(less overheads). So there you have it...this is the machine to run gp4 at its maximum settings and not much over %100 at 60fps. The new cpu chip will probably run it at 60fps and around %100 and less.

mick

btw ZaZ...love you sig!

I have just found out that intel are not going past 3.2ghz(800mhz FSB)with Pentium4 so have told the computer shop to get the 3.2 instead of the 3ghz.

I have the following spec - NOt showing off but I have a problem so please read on:

Pentium 4 3.06 running at 3.4ghz
1gb Dual Channel DDR
Gigabyte sinxp1394
Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb
Serial ATA HDD
Soundblaster Audigy

Basically the system works fine with ALL games EXCEPT GP4. Can play the game for up to 3 four mins and it will either crash to the desktop or freeze totally requiring a restart. NOT AN OVERHEATING PROBLEM. Anyone got any suggestions? I have tried most things.

I have a good spec PC.

2.8 Ghz P4
512 mb ram (bit low)
Geforce 4 MX440 (must admit, lets me down)
Win XP

I run at around 28 fps, it suggests that, with everything on, so I guess I could go to somewhere like 35, I think its my graphics card that is holding me back.

I havent experienced a crash yet!

Im currently weighing up my options on buying a new PC. Just wondering whether to go with the P4 or go to get an athlon 2800, a GeForce or Radeon? I havent got an endless supply of money, but i do want the performance any helpful suggestions?

On a fresh install I get recommended frames of 60 on my rig and it does indeed look smooth. Occupancy seems to shade over 100 at start of races but soon settles down and goes as low as about 50% on some tracks... rain does push it up a bit.

With my updated 2003 cars and anim.wad I get recommendations of about 53-55 fps.

I recently cleaned out my registry and re-installed my sblive plus drivers and now things seem much faster.

I just installed the absolutely fabu-tastic-agorical 1995 mod (love those pointy cars and fat slicks !) and the cars.wad is about 85 meg so I expected to get a huge hit in frames..... much to my amazement and delight it get a solid 56-57 fps.....

sorry to sound like a brag-ass but it really made me smile and I like to know if others are having similar results...... btw the Omega drivers I installed over the top of the original Cat3.5 drivers maybe the difference ?

P4 2.85gig Albatron mobo 512mb Corsair3200LL Ram 19"Auriga Mon. SBLive! + 4point surround spkrs. Thrustmaster F1 FF Wheel. Radeon9500pro Cat3.4 drivers. GP4 55fps 1024*768 - No VideoWalls/HeatHaze - Mirrors On.
