Which is a good PCI-e graphics card

Hi all, i have a Dell 9100 with a 3.0 Ghz P4 amd a radeon X300se and need a card upgrade to play this game, does anyone have a recommendation please as i dont want to waste cash on something that will not work...thanks in anticipation....Mark....PS, and a source for the best price

I just recenlty bought a geforce 7600GT.

Works very well on the game. Very reasonable priced.

if money no matters than go for X1800XT or XL.

Thanks for the replies, i was looking on amazon.co.uk last night and was thinking about the 6600GT, what would the benefit be of the 7600GT over this?

Where did you get the 7600 from?

7600GT is a lot faster. I recently bought an AGP 6800 GT, much faster than 6600GT, but the reviews were saying if you have PCI-e get the 7600GT.

The 7600GT is a good card, I'd advise you to stay away from the X1600 range, they all seem to be fairly cheap with low performance, the only thing that looks good is the large amount of memory.

Splash that bit of extra cash and go for the 7600GT!

I'd go with a X1800 or a Geforce 7800.. If you buy something below that, and you want to play the newest game next year you need to buy a new card again, as de DirectX10 cards are coming..

You'll need new cards anyway for DX10, that's why I don't understand why nV have released the 7950 which has no support what-so-ever for it

But yeah, the 7600 is a pretty good card, personally, i'd look more at a 7800, or even a 7900gt. For ATi, anything below an X1800 is a waste of money imo

The reason why GF7950 doesn't have support for dx10 is that g70 in now quite old arhitecture and there is no enough power for dx10 based games. G80 or NV50 will be all new arhitecture and is coming when Vista and dx10 arrives. And dx10 card won't be needed at least fon another year because there won't be much games based on dx10 only Crysis and FSX. And if you want to spend that much money only for two games its your problem.

I didn't say "don't bother at all" did I?

I said, don't bother spending such an obscene amount of money on a 7950 at the moment, prices will plummit before long, and when DX10 and it's assosciated games appear, then new cards from mid-range updwards will appear. For what it is, the 7950 is grossly over priced imo. I don't particularly care tbh, it's like AMD's AM2 getting wasted by Intel Conroe processors, AM2 is a bit useless until they refine it like they did with 939.

Sod it tbh, technology sucks, as soon as you've bought it something better has come along

I don't know about you but i like to test hardware by myself. So i won't tell anything more about 7950 until i get it for testing. And about CPU's I like when there are at least two competetive company's so its good that finally Intel's making something good.

I'm not actually a hardware geek, despite what people think, I'm just looking at the market now as I need a new system. Seriously quickly now. That's the only reason I have some knowledge of what's going on, if you'd have asked me anything about hardware ooo, 1 year ago, I wouldn't have known squat

i have a sapphir radeon x1600xt and the card is much better then the nvidia 6800 gs i had. Its only a matter of taste. I'll never buy a nvidia again cause radeon is much much better in my opinion.

Must be something wrong with your card then, as in pretty much all benchmarks the 6800GS trounces the X1600XT.


The Mid to Low range ATi cards are not that great, the only ATi cards worth getting are the high end cards (X1800 +).

i installed the card and GP4 and when i calibrated sound and graphics the pc locked up, i could not ctrl/alt/del the only way out was to kill the power....any ideas anyone

The best way to improve the performance is to get a PCI-E video card with 256 MB memory?

I'm thinking about to get a new video card, i have now an Ati Radeo 9800 Pro 128 MB video card, it's the weakest link in my hardware configuration.

I've got a Pentium IV 2.4 GHz, 2 GB DDR RAM, Asus P4C800-E Deluxe mb and a 240 GB hd.
