Windows-based GP4 Replayer?

Hiya. An idea occured to me today, but being just a humble non-programmer type, I wouldn't be able to design this (or even tell whether it'd be possible). :)

I was wondering if there would be any way to play GP4 replay files (e.g. Hotlaps, or extended Hotlap whole-race replays) on a Windows-based player? It'd be a neat little tool, though as I've said I wouldn't know how possible this would be.

Any thoughts?

That ain't gonna happen mate.. It's not just a movie your playing in GP4Replay..

Track, cars... everything needs to be loaded before playing replay.. only data's of the cars and tracks are saved, no footage.. just data's.

And in replay the PC uses that data to steer cars JUST LIKE THEY DID. But it's not a movie or something ;-)

I thought you could use FRAPS or something?

using fraps is a bit like recording off the radio or television. you can use fraps with gp4, but be sure to compress the output file when its done though.

The free version of Fraps is ok but the file sizes are ridiculous. For a 30 second clip you're talking 400mb.

Thats why you have to encode it to (for example) DivX

maybe you could use the replay data in conjunction with the circuit to recreate a race. You wouldnt be able to have the 3d graphics like you get ingame, but you could mayeb get a track map with moving dots, a bit like grand prix manager maybe. This could be useful for maybe devising a stratergy as you could probably extract the gap time from the data or work it out by car positioning in conjunction with teh circuit from the .dat.

This is probably not waht you were after, and it'd need someone with the skill level of madman to do:).

good idea tho:)!
